Left 4 Dead outpacing Orange Box pre-orders photo

People really like survival horror games. According to Valve, pre-orders of Left 4 Dead are outperforming Orange Box’s numbers by over 65 percent at this point pre-launch. The big question is, how many pre-orders is that exactly? Valve is remaining mum on that subject, but according to our number crunching gremlins, over 65% of Orange Box presales means “a lot.”

The percentage speaks to the hype surrounding the game and it seems quite valid. This summer at E3, Nick Chester and Anthony Burch were able to play a four-player cooperative session of the game. Even though the presentation was only five minutes, Nick seemed fairly impressed. He said the game was “Really, really awesome. Mind-blowingly awesome. Disgustingly rad.”

How many of you have contributed to pre-order tally of this title? Do you think it will deserve a place above Orange Box?

I don't know if it will be better than Orange Box, but still, zombies. Zombies dude.

If it doesn't I will eat my hat. And my hat smells quite bad, I don't wash it every often. Though Left4Dead does make me camp out whenever I see it, I don't think it can ever have a place considering it has Half Life 2 in it. Though when Left4Dead comes out Half Life 2 may be lesser in every way shape and form, nostalgia factor is huge and needs to be considered. When SMB3 is still considered the best game even though many games are better, you have to think why?

Is there any sweet pre-order swag for this? In any case, I plan on picking it up next month to get my co-op zombie slaying on.

I'll admit, I'm holding back atm. Yes, the idea and the percieved implementation of the game is fantastic, but I'm a cynic (and also getting my jollies from consoles atm - fps's belong on the PC). I'll let it release, let it go trough a couple of patch cycles and pick it up either at end of Nov or beginning of Dec... But it does look dam, and I mean dam sweet...

You go camping whenever you see L4D? Also, usually OoT is considered the best game. SMB3 maybe among Mario games, which I think is bullshit. I think that had to do less with nostalgia factor than with people being starved for a true Mario sequel.

I don't understand why. Orange Box had the TF2 beta. This has nothing really going for it save for 5$ as far as paying early goes.

People already had HL2 + EP1/2, and probs bought TF2 and Portal seperately from steam.
L4D isn't out in any form yet.

Also, I'm going to wait. I'm in the minority who doesn't like Valve games.

@ RedRabbit: Yup, 360 version. My PC would need some significant upgrades to get it up to snuff, and I find I just enjoy playing games in my living room much more.

many people didn't buy orange box because they already had hl2/ep1 so they didn't need them again. and only bought what they needed on steam, this time that's not the case. so more people are buying it

zombies, valve, co-op, killer user support as well as that from Steam?

Valve's got a winner on their hands here.

I would absolutely pre-order this if it was an actual disk game. Why not just buy it on Steam when it comes out?
