Left 4 Dead can wait 4 later: Zombie shooting co-op game pushed back photo

Valve is a company that likes to take its time, as if the epic development length of its Half-Life games weren't any indication. True to form, Valve has revealed that the highly anticipated Turtle Rock Studios collaboration Left 4 Dead has been pushed back from Q1 of 2008 to sometime in August or September. Boo!

While disappointing, we hardened gamers are more than used to dealing with delays by now, and at least Valve and its new pet Turtle Rock can be trusted to bring the goods. Hopefully Left 4 Dead is well worth the wait, so just sit tight. Zombies come to those who wait.

[Thanks, Godkow]

I love valve as much as the next guy, but it has gotten to the point where I don't even bother listening to them about release dates anymore. It gets here when it gets here, and always is high quality.

Easy solution for devs then...

...STOP getting your targeted fan base rock hard for your game three years before its release date.

Your making a game thats coming out in three years? Great, show me a debut trailer in 2 years at the least.

If publishers would announcing projects when they are more than a year or two away, then they could take their time. Rockstar is the worst with this. Whenever they announce a date, just scratch that and add a year to it.

Oh yeah, Dtoid exclusive here, GTA IV is being quietly delayed to fall.

They knocked back a generic FPS where you shoot generic zombies in a generic city with generic weapons with a team made up of generic people all spouting generic lines?

I'm crushed.

In order to repeat the success of the Orange box Valve needs a couple more pack-ins for EP3. from what I hear this is right up there quality-wise so I can almost guarantee thats whats going on with this. Matter of fact unless EP3 is ready this fall this will be "pushed back" again. I suspect they'll announce its tie-in with EP3 before that though.

I'm wondering when/if Valve will start raping the Portal franchise. It'd be kind of neat to see Portal just being the Prologue to a main storyline coinciding with the Half Life mytho.

liqideos: Well, Aperture Science's ship is supposed to be the main focus of Episode 3, so it looks like that's already happened.

I swear, if GlaDOS appears in episode 3 at any time, I might just vomit with excitement and joy.

Very well, Valve's track record of handling an IP properly carries forth.

That, and the fact that they totally refused to put EA logos on console games almost makes me want to support digital distribution...almost.

Sucky news; however, if they are making it better I can wait.

Pushing a game back is nothing new so it shouldn't come as a surprise anymore.

It already looked very dated last year, so it will probably look worse in comparison when it comes out. And then it will be hailed as the innovative game of the year etc because it's Valve, zzzz!

There's a lot of other good zombie mods out there now. And you don't even have to pay for them =O. As for finished HL2 zombie mods though... did any of those ever get done?

lol? you're mom's generic. this game is anything BUT generic, had you payed closer attention to what it actually is. and don't bash fps's just because you don't like the genre, if now thats the case.

in response to the delay: NOOOOOOO!!!! i can't wait to get my hands on this, and i agree with liqideos who said they should stop putting out false hope for us poor mortals.

What the fucking shit? This thing was supposedly almost done a few months back when it was being played and tested. Us, normies, were playing it at QuakeCon even. What could they possibly be doing to it besides screwing it up?

theres obviously something really bad about the game since its taking this long.

at this point i dont care much, i wanted this game a year ago and its such a simple design and implementation that this gross delay has turned me off.

and my life isnt a void of things to do, i have other things to attend to that take way more priority over this, but not asmuch as it used to be.

I won't be satisfied with having Glados in Episode 3 unless Gordon gets to smash the shit out of her with his crowbar. I'd say the odds are extreeeemely good for an appearance, though.

I think Valve's the only company which I don't mind delays from. Because I know that it doesn't mean the game's in trouble -- just that it's going to be a little closer to perfect, now.

We should just start automatically adding two months onto any release date announced. Then when they finally do delay it, we won't be as heartbroken.

Low standards are the secret to a long and happy life! :D

@Eschatos: The sending theme is called "still alive" for a reason. And with what's her name dead outside with the Portal gun on the ground, I'd say there's a good chance Gordon could come across the wreckage and find himself thinking with portals very shortly.

As for L4D, I was getting hyped for its imminent release last night, after being underwhelmed by the slooooooow beta of Zombie Panic Source. The generic comment doesn't deserve much attention, as it was either born of ignorance or trollishness.

So, EP3, L4D and...what? We'll need another pack in. Maybe Portal expansion pack. That fits the theme of HL2 expansion, multiplayer game and Portal from last time.
