Left 4 Dead 2 update: Special Infected bots photo

People sure do love to ragequit Left 4 Dead 2. I don't know how long it's been since you last played, but it's gotten pretty ridiculous. With any luck, today's patch for the PC version will help to lessen the frustration.

Click through for the full patch notes, or just check out the crucial stuff here:

  • Enabled PZ bots
  • Enabled finale manual spawn by default
  • Reduced effectiveness of melee weapons against the Tank (5% of max health, from 10%)
  • VAC banned users can now play L4D2 single-player, commentary mode and credits
  • Mall: Tuned spawning for difficulty

Having bots join in when everyone on your team drops out should be immensely helpful. Since they are based on the Special Infected from Survival mode, they'd better be. At the very least, the PZ bots will be more useful than the human AI.

Gameplay

  • Now ghost PZ's can never be staggered
  • Enabled PZ bots
  • PZ bots use their more aggressive survival mode behavior in versus and scavenge
  • Enabled finale manual spawn by default
  • Fixed human PZ players not getting counted when they were dead, allowing extra PZ bots to spawn
  • Reduced effectiveness of melee weapons against the Tank ( 5% of max health, from 10% )
  • Fixed a case where a player who dies, then is rescued from a rescue closet, and then is revived from a ledge hang receives the secondary weapon that he lost when he was initially killed
  • Improved SurvivorBot AI in cases where the bots refused to shoot through their teammates and became non-responsive
  • Fixed issue with witch sometimes taking on uncommon common properties
  • Fix for cheaters quitting before the vote to kick them would succeed and avoiding ban on server
  • VAC banned users can now play L4D2 single-player, commentary mode and credits

Map Fixes

  • Dark Carnival Fair Ground: added env_player_blocker to keep special infected from getting stuck
  • Dark Carnival Fair Ground: added navigation area that was missing
  • Dark Carnival Fair Ground: Disconnected drops that were blocked by the top of a fence
  • Swamp Fever Plank Country: Deleted 2 nav areas that connected between tree trunks you can't pass through
  • Swamp Fever Shanty Town: Redrew ladder thinner so special infected could climb up to the roof
  • The Parish Waterfront: Fixed various navigation areas
  • Mall: Tuned spawning for difficulty

SDK Content

  • Added missing nature/blend tooltextures added
  • Added missing cs models/textures
  • Added missing acunit01 model/texture
  • Added missing ammo_can_02 model/texture
  • Added missing patio_chair model/texture

Basically, no more Tank Burger Achievement if you don't already have it.

I wish they would fix the bug where Survivors stay in safehouses for 10 minutes before playing. Oh wait that's not a bug at all...

They don't work. Valve treats the bots as if they have the same abilities as a regular player, and as such, gives players 30 second respawn - like they're playing with 3 other humans. The bots also take up slots for key infected like spitters and boomers, and despite all this, they still haven't fixed servers shutting down when the entire team rages.

However, it's still a great start, and nice to see infected bots available in versus.Hopefully they're fix the rest in future.

THIS DOES NOTHING

I think the only effective way to do the Tank Burger achievement, or kill a player Tank, is if 2 or more people take adrenaline shots and destroy the tank.

It's a nice gesture and one that was really needed a long time ago, but they really need to sort out the server shutdown.

Most games usually end up with people on the mics questioning if the server is going to shutdown because two people rage quit on the other team. It's a bit distracting and it really takes the fun out of the game by the halfway mark.

Tried it out.
The bots are incredible stupid and I'd prefer having no bots at all instead.
It would give my re-spawn time back.

I haven't played L4D2 nearly as much as L4D... I need to stop being so addicted to MW2 which is damn near impossible at times.

Preemptive elation for when this goes live on XBox ...Live. -_-

Sucks to need the Tank Burger achievement though, thankfully I've already gotten it. While professing; "POLICE BRUTALITY MOTHERF*#@!ER" Good times.

David Quinn Carder, I'm pretty sure you can change the FoV. Frankly I never noticed if the camera angle is "ultra-wide". Also, I think the header image is a 16:10 resolution, so I'm not sure how good of an example that is.

Also I'm glad for the changes. It's kind of unfair to be on a team of 2 or 3 infected because someone quit. I'll have to see later if they made the Dark Carnival finale less broken, too.
