alve has a few more Infected up its sleeves for Left 4 Dead 2. In a conversation with IncGamers at the not-so-recent Left 4 Dead 2 event, PR man Doug Lombardi revealed that the studio is working on three additional “bosses” (we’re guessing Infected here) and tinkering with a fourth for the sequel. If the fourth monster makes the cut, the total of Infected in L4D2 will be a stellar eight -- a big number.
We did see one of the new Infected at E3 2009. The Charger is a diet Tank. Its “charge” ability temporarily disorients its victims, leaving them open for other Infected to pounce, rope, smash or barf on them. We learned to kill these new baddies by simply keeping our distance and plugging away at their health.
We haven’t the slightest idea (and Valve isn’t telling anyone yet) what the other two (or possibly three) new Infected types are, but we’re not stressing: axes can cut through undead flesh.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
More Infected is always good.
More Infected is always good. As long as they're playable.
More Infected = less chance of getting a Hunter and getting killed in 3 seconds.
I also call one that can turn invisible.
The Spitter sounds cool! Being slowed down would be triple AIDS.
I don't much like the look of the Charger but 2 or 3 additionals can't be bad. Is there a chainsaw in this game? There better be...
I also foresee some kind of poison/leech projectile Infected.
Breeders: a brother/sister pair of infected joined at the pelvis who can summon hordes of retarded zombies that shamble around and are more of an annoyance than a threat. They leave slobber trails that trip up survivors.
Wolfatron's idea is also good, only it would be chaw instead of slime globs.
On a positive note, this game is going to be tits.
I asked Chet at E3 about The Witch being playable, and he said they tried to work it in, but it didn't make sense, and won't be playable in L4D2. I also asked about the possibility of becoming a regular infected during the load time in versus, and he said the same thing.
Im in for spy infected, or maybe a male witch that walks around with a red survivor silhouette making players try and and heal him, call him the wizard lol
The witch will wander during the daylight levels, and cry at night.
I'm really looking forward to these new infected. I hated when there were 3 hunters at once. Hunters are the bane of my l4d experience. I'd rather be Boomer all day.
Though it will be so much more delicious if original flavours are preserved and L4D1 and all custom content for it can be accessed from the same menu. (Yes, I know Valve's already working on this.)
No. Go away.
Well, you'd be 100% wrong. I was told during a Valve meeting that there would, barring unforeseen circumstances, be 4 new "specials" (the official term) at E3 weeks ago, before the boycott really took legs. This IncGamers story is just a delayed public statement.
Valve isn't counting The Witch in the total special infected number. I don't think they're counting the new regular hazmat suit infected character either.
I know zombies are thick and all but forcing you to contine to slash away as the hunter when you can see the survivors are right on top of you is pretty freaking annoying.
