One of the biggest additions in Left 4 Dead 2 is a selection of brand new melee weapons with which to bash away the ravening horde. We've seen fire axes and frying pans, but Valve has revealed that the zombie-flavored followup is going all Shaun of the Dead on us, introducing cricket bats to the arsenal.
Any Brit knows that the cricket bat is the ultimate undead-basher. Its durability, weight and ability to slice or batter depending on the situation makes it an ideal weapon in the fight against the infected. As for how useful it is in the game, Valve isn't saying, but the above image appears to demonstrate that it'll be quite the handy tool indeed.
... And dogs can't look up.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Be sure to have them pre-knocked.
Damn my lack of fancy gaming hardware...
this looks like a prank to me. Look at ellis hat... is there some cricket news for today or tomorrow that needed to be showned to the world? XD
this could be great.. but why cricket.. its a bit cartoonish as well for l4d :S
Take original idea.
Change it in no way whatsoever.
Present it as their own revolutionary shit storm.
Recieve credit.
Jim put them there.
Good old Valve
Take original idea.
Improve upon it.
Realise people want more.
Tell people that they're giving them everything they wanted.
Somehow take abuse?
PS: WTF is cricket?
Or maybe NOW we should REALLY boycott L4d2 simply because of this SICK FILTH.
Hopefully they'll name the cricket bat 'The Winchester' as a nod.
I think you have to be British and within the last two decades of your life to know the answer to that one. Good luck finding anyone who fits that criteria around here!
Now that I think about it, change it up a little and you could have the Feature L4d2 Boycotters Haiku! Oh wait, that wont work, most Haikus are supposed to mean at least something.
I see what you mean. Since England are playing in the Ashes against Australia today, I believe this is a great piece of topical artwork. :O)
I wonder if there's going to be some major differences in the weapons with L4D2. I mean... there's the frying pan, axe, chainsaw and now cricket bat... are they just going to have different reaches and damages? Or will they work differently, like the cricket bat being able to smack propane tanks at a mob (pulled that out of nowhere... I don't expect that to be implemented at all)
Would anyone like a peanut?
