Left 4 Dead 2 DLC features Bill, Zoey, Louis and Francis! photo

You read that correctly! Left 4 Dead's original four survivors -- Bill, Zoey, Lois and Francis -- are heading to the American South in Left 4 Dead 2's brand new DLC! "The Passing" will see our intrepid Survivors arriving in Georgia for a new campaign set just after the events of "Dead Center."

Here's the rub, however -- players will still take on the roles of Nick, Coach, Ellis and Rochelle. They will meet up with the original four Survivors during the course of the campaign. This will mark the first face-to-face meeting of all eight survivors, and it should be pretty epic. In any case, it'll be good to see the older (better) team once again.

In addition to the new story mode, The Passing brings us a brand new Uncommon Infected, new maps for Survival, Scavenge and Versus and a mysterious new co-op mode. In addition, there will be a brand new firearm and a new melee weapon to up the zombie-smashing ante.

The Passing is scheduled to hit Xbox Live and Steam in Spring 2010.

I wonder if the new "uncommon" will be a "former survivor" variety....

Too bad the original four are carriers and will probably make the zombie infection spread faster.

@Perfidious Sinn: Arent they ALL carriers?

Anyways, this made my day. I never liked the new survivors. Except for Ellis, he's so lovable.

A strong step in the right direction, story relating campaign (unlike crappy crash course) and involving the older far more awesome characters in it.

Wow, sounds like they're going all-out with this DLC. Definitely wasn't what I was expecting (Midnight Riders), but I'm still stoked. Can't fucking wait for this, Spring can't come soon enough.

So how the hell did the L4D Survivors get from Pittsburgh to Louisiana? And is this after the entire game of L4D? I hope everything is explained.

I'M SO EXCITE!!!!

HOLY SHIT GUYS I JUST GOT AN IDEA

What if, to fufill that old promise that they'd still support L4D1, release DLC where you can play "The Passage" from the perspective of the Old Suvivors!?

So... The people who was pissed about L4D2 coming, what do they think about the prequel used as DLC? When they first thought the sequel was really DLC for the prequel? Or something.

What amazes me is how there are people that are pissed about this. "We like the original survivors better but fuck this shit they're screwing over l4d1!" I can't believe Valve would backstab people by making something that people want.

I'm definitely excited for this. I agree that the old team was better. The new group just doesn't seem as fun to me. Whatever, this is still awesome. Could this be a sign of 8-player co-op at some point?

Regardless, incredibly excited at this news. I wonder how the L4D2 boycotters are going to justify this as yet another act of Valve's greed and evil.

as for the gun, i'd love another grenade launcher, or perhaps a chaingun? :D
new infected... oooooo, perhaps a mini tank where it is fairly resistant to damage, and can grab survivors and throw them around, a new infected could be anything.... :D

@Galaxy Ninja: Damn you for posting my idea before I could. Thief.

Also, how is this going to be set after Dead Center? I thought Dead Center and Dark Carnival linked up pretty clearly, what with the Jimmy Gibbs stock car and all. How are they going to get that car through the entire Crossing campaign?

Why ever play L4D1 again? Please remind me? A week after L4D2 came out DLC was announced for it. A WEEK. L4D1 has had TWO major patches in the ONE year it's been out. AND ONE OF THEM WAS A SHORT ASS CAMPAIGN.

They said they'd support the L4D1 community but... it really doesn't feel like it at all. They already announced an SDK patch I believe for L4D2 that allows custom character models and guns.

WHY!?

Actually in the Parish finale if you pay close attention to the guy on the radio who informs you to lower the bridge he says something like this to the pilot of the chopper "Are you equipped to transport carriers?" After which ever survivor explains they have encountered the infected. Just to make somewhat of a point and add to the interesting debate.

Anywho, to stay mildly on topic this makes me really excited that the game is being supported as well as I hoped can't say much for the original but this helps entirely. Valve really knows how to drive a narrative in a seemingly non narrative game. I am extremely pleased with those geeky bastards and their understanding of the hardcore crowd.

> the older (better) team

What exactly makes them "better"? I dar prefer the new survivors now, actually, I always kinda did, even from the concept art.
Afer going back to the original L4D I realised instantly how really quite boring the original survivors are, and how - even though this is kinda true of the sequel - they're all just tired, Zombie-apocolypse survivor stereotypes.
It's this kind of stupid comment that started that ridiculous boycott.

anyway, i can't wait.

and i can't wait to see what Francis hates about the old south.
