You read that correctly! Left 4 Dead's original four survivors -- Bill, Zoey, Lois and Francis -- are heading to the American South in Left 4 Dead 2's brand new DLC! "The Passing" will see our intrepid Survivors arriving in Georgia for a new campaign set just after the events of "Dead Center."
Here's the rub, however -- players will still take on the roles of Nick, Coach, Ellis and Rochelle. They will meet up with the original four Survivors during the course of the campaign. This will mark the first face-to-face meeting of all eight survivors, and it should be pretty epic. In any case, it'll be good to see the older (better) team once again.
In addition to the new story mode, The Passing brings us a brand new Uncommon Infected, new maps for Survival, Scavenge and Versus and a mysterious new co-op mode. In addition, there will be a brand new firearm and a new melee weapon to up the zombie-smashing ante.
The Passing is scheduled to hit Xbox Live and Steam in Spring 2010.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Anyways, this made my day. I never liked the new survivors. Except for Ellis, he's so lovable.
still, interesting dlc got me wanting it
Tears of joy-> :')
I'M SO EXCITE!!!!
What if, to fufill that old promise that they'd still support L4D1, release DLC where you can play "The Passage" from the perspective of the Old Suvivors!?
I really like that idea.
God, I hope the new weapon is a sledgehammer.
This is the sound of me being more excited about Force Unleashed 2.
Anyway. It is my firm opinion that this game is good. My dollars have been justified. Therefore, this DLC news excites me.
Hip hip hooray!
Regardless, incredibly excited at this news. I wonder how the L4D2 boycotters are going to justify this as yet another act of Valve's greed and evil.
as for the gun, i'd love another grenade launcher, or perhaps a chaingun? :D
new infected... oooooo, perhaps a mini tank where it is fairly resistant to damage, and can grab survivors and throw them around, a new infected could be anything.... :D
Also, how is this going to be set after Dead Center? I thought Dead Center and Dark Carnival linked up pretty clearly, what with the Jimmy Gibbs stock car and all. How are they going to get that car through the entire Crossing campaign?
They aren't. Hating on this is just signs of trolling. It's going to be free on PC, they can't complain.
Anyway, I'll never say no to new weapons!!!
They said they'd support the L4D1 community but... it really doesn't feel like it at all. They already announced an SDK patch I believe for L4D2 that allows custom character models and guns.
WHY!?
16 player versus matches ? I hope even more :-)
this could be very very epic!
Anywho, to stay mildly on topic this makes me really excited that the game is being supported as well as I hoped can't say much for the original but this helps entirely. Valve really knows how to drive a narrative in a seemingly non narrative game. I am extremely pleased with those geeky bastards and their understanding of the hardcore crowd.
Best news since Arkham 2 was announced!
What exactly makes them "better"? I dar prefer the new survivors now, actually, I always kinda did, even from the concept art.
Afer going back to the original L4D I realised instantly how really quite boring the original survivors are, and how - even though this is kinda true of the sequel - they're all just tired, Zombie-apocolypse survivor stereotypes.
It's this kind of stupid comment that started that ridiculous boycott.
Also we should have an 8 player mode in huge open spaces where we can play with them all, FUCK YES!!!!
Team L4D2 has Uncle Phil, argument is null.
anyway, i can't wait.
and i can't wait to see what Francis hates about the old south.
