It's a bit anti-climatic at this point since all of the people I played L4D2 on 360 with have died of old age...
To be fair, it's changed a lot since then. They didn't say beta for nothing.
Still wish L4D2 had been an expansion for the original game. It split the community and things kind of fell apart for me. That and frankly L4D1 was better.
Agreed, it is an old argument now, but the move to release L4D2 so soon did kill off L4D. I often wonder how much larger of a community they could of had by keeping it all under the same game.
Whattyado?
I assume that's the reason they decided to make the maps for L4D2, try and combine the communities together, especially since it's all free on the PC. Hopefully, if this is reasonably priced, and they promote it, they could get a second surge of sales and grow the community.
Some of the revisions to the old maps are cool though, so there's that at least.
the dlc support has sucked too. why not make a map /content editor for l4d for consoles, too? Other console games have had similar tools.
Fuck you, Valve.
AND IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME THIS DLC RELEASED! It should be free after this long.
Do you still not know its Microsoft charging you and not Valve? Honestly, how many times does everyone have to reiterate this?
Honestly, I did prefer the original so this will likely get me into L4D2 even moreso!
yep, that's why shouting: "why didn't they pick X" is absolutely retarded.
congrats
PS unless a lot changed, Cold Stream kinda sucks really hard.
although it is a bit of a shame that it's a "user mod turned official campaign" instead of an all new one by Valve themselves
Versus mode runs everything on "normal" difficulty settings. So yeah, consider how easy it is to complete a campaign on normal mode, then just make the special infected smarter but not stronger. That is versus. The only way infected EVER win is either luck, a 1hit kill manuever (e.g. charging someone off of a cliff), or a tank spawns. Around 95% of the games I played ended up only being decided by the finale, with every other section of the game being everyone surviving.
The mod I ran was challenging without being unfair imo.
There was only the starting room health packs (though you could find pills/adrenaline. Damage was increased slightly for team damage (in normal versus you only deal 5% damage to teammates), fire damage was increased for survivors from 1damage per second to 3per second (it made running through fire or throwing a molotov at your feet a bad idea) common infected had their damage increased from 2damage per swing to 5damage per swing. (Though in both cases the infected still do half damage if they hit you from behind.) and special infected all got a small damage boost.
Overall what it did was make survivors have to play more cautiously (avoid shooting your teammate or throwing bad molotovs.) it made a well coordinated attack from special infected scarier (since even if you survive you'd take a lot of damage instead of just a little bit and then heal up.) and it meant that common infected were useful as more than just something to slow down the survivors (especially made boomers more useful.)
O yeah, and I made it so that Survivors move slower in water (in Co-Op on Hard Rain if you walk in the water once it gets flooded you move at half speed. That is why they have the rooftop paths and things like cars in the street to encourage you to stay out of the water. For some stupid reason, in versus mode though water doesn't slow you down at all meaning that the hard rain return trip is a breeze.)
Blood Harvest.
There were stories...where boys were turned into men thanks to that damned forest. God, ima get my L4D groove back. So fucking hype.
Also, calling a PS3 port of L4D2 w/ all the DLC.
Alsoalso, Cold Stream is a shitty mod.
He made a few different maps before this one that got really good reviews and everyone liked. So Valve asked him if he wanted to make a official DLC campaign. This map was built from the ground up for this DLC. No idea if he's getting paid, but I wouldn't doubt it.
Sadly back in the beta it was pretty poorly made and the levels not so great. Now like I said before, I haven't played L4D2 for about 6 months so a lot might have changed.
It's one thing for it to be difficult in general. The problem is that there are way too many "crossover" points- spots where you can't go back, so the Infected can easily separate and kill the Survivors. It's a cheap way to tip the scales in favor of the Infected.
Frankly I didn't think L4D2 was as good as the original. "Technically" it was better, but in the long run having more types of special infected just muddled up the strategy aspect; it was hard to predict what specials your team would have, so it was hard to plan out ambushes.
As for all this being free or not on console, remember that it's MS/Sony that determine that. Developers usually have to PAY to even patch their games, much less release free stuff. If you want lots of free DLC and mods you picked the wrong platform.
I don't think some of those words you used mean what you think they mean.
@Nicholas
Actually Valve has been the one doing the work from what I heard, the guy originally laid out the first beta and such but got picked up by a company a few updates in, so Valve took over and pretty much has been doing the legwork since.
And not to mention, there would probably be some fan outrage if this guy had been picked up by Valve over the other talent that has a much MUCH larger backing (Suicide Blitz, Haunted Forest, I Hate Mountains, etc etc).
