Left 4 Dead 2 boycott didn't change Valve's plans photo

One of the biggest complaints that people had when they decided to be all dramatic and boycott Left 4 Dead 2 was that the original game would not get all the support that Valve was apparently contractually obligated to produce. Valve soon proved that complaint wrong, but Doug Lombardi insists that the fresh content for the game was not influenced by the online furor.

"I think there was just some confusion," Lombardi said. "When you go to E3 and make a big splash on a new product you're trying to get the retailer's attention and the press attention. It's not really the venue for announcing DLC and whatnot. I think folks took our announcement as a sign that we were dropping Left 4 Dead 1 and that's just not the case.

"It really didn't change our plans at all. As I mentioned we had plans to keep releasing stuff. We put the Survival Pack out for free which I thought was pretty cool on 360 as well as PC -- it's sort of uncommon to be able to get new stuff out that way."

Of course, the boycotters themselves remain unsatisfied, but once you get on a high horse about something, it's really hard to come back down. I should know, since I keep writing these condescending posts, and I'll probably never stop.

Good luck crazy assholes!

I hope the game is glorious, the best game ever in fact, and that you sit outside in the rain holding your banner murmuring about more DLC while I sit inside drinking hot cocoa and shoot a zombie's face off with a shotgun. Every once in a while I might give you a nod, a wink, and a smile, that's when you know I have killed another hazmat zombie.

I'm not buying l4d2. within a few months somebody is gonna come out with a mod to make l4d1, l4d2. EVERYTHING in l4d2 can already be achieved with l4d1, even randomized paths. there's already several l4d1 maps out there with randomized paths to prove it. sure you console dicks will grab it up and scream with joy, but us pc users will stick to the first one, and in my mind the ONLY one.

no, your going to scream at me and yell "bah humbug! nobody will play the first game more than a sequel! and then I will show you the player difference between COD4 and COD5, and the player difference between Counter Strike and Counter Strike: Source.

Bottom line is good games always win, cashouts always loose. L4D2 is a cashout.

They are able to in less than an year rearrange the L4D team in to making a sequel and still produce new DLC for the original game.
But having a team to make on the PS3 in under 2,5 years it's crazy talk.

I happen to love COD WAW multiplayer. It's different enough to keep me hooked for now. Counter Strike 1.6 sucks balls compared to 1.5 before it, and Counter Strike Source doesn't have the newb shield, ahem sorry I meant riot shield.

Just because your opinion is king in SwizzlerWorld, doesn't mean it's fact in real world.

Los255, why do you keep saying they'll put 2 new maps in? No way that's happening with their focus on L4D2 (although Left 4 Dead Too is a much better name, c'mon Valve lol). If they put out 2 new maps, I'll sit on Sterling's lap while he plays Bayonetta...(if he provides plane fare). Not happening dude.

Most of the things they said are in L4D2 were already promised in L4D1 and it was started before L4D1 is finished. At this rate L4D2 will be out before L4D2 will be finished.
It is there boat and they can go where they want with it but I'm not hesitant to say that for the sake of creating a good product that they are making a real dick move. This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to pirate and a large portion of the boycott probably will if valve doesn't shape up.

I love the strange sense of entitlement that these boy-cotters have. I have a few quotes from their steam group page. It's quite ridiculous. I'm sure any sane person would agree.

"As of 10pm Eastern Standard Time on June 17th 2009, we still have not received a response to our request that Valve provides further details regarding what’s included in upcoming updates, and when we can expect them. While we can understand Valve is reluctant to give all the details, we still expect a response to our inquiries. This does not mean that Valve is ignoring us. We should expect some delays, especially when we ask them to elaborate on updates as it does take time to gather information, and decide what to inform the community. We've not forgotten about this, and we will be trying to work with Valve in this matter."

Who the fuck do you people think you are? I just can't believe these people. They're the most ridiculous sacks of shit I've ever seen.

"The last point we would like to discuss this evening is what we can continue to do to keep this movement strong. As most of you have guessed, we're not going to get instant results in this effort. We're in this for the long haul, and we still have almost five months till the planned release day. With that in mind - keep inviting people; keep informing friends and relatives about what's going on. Keep discussing L4D, and what you want to see; most of all, keep positive. .
"

Keep fighting the good fight, admiral douche nozzle!

They didn't change their plans? But the stated reason on why there is a l4d2 was that they were working on dlc and they realised it became too large for a free expansion and justified a sequel. Isn't the entire existence of L4D2 currently because their plans changed? I'm not saying they can't I'm saying that this line they are spouting is bullshit.

Are any of us really going to stick with L4D1 though? If they add the old campaigns into L4D2? L4D will probably get like 1 campaign tops with a few vague updates that don't do a whole lot. The game is done.

As someone who actually had hands on time with this game (multiple times) at E3, the haters can be damned. It's just as fun as ever and if they actually cram in all the L4D content into 2 (something they've thrown out as a possibility) there is NO reason for people not to buy it and LOVE it.

Day one purchase for me, for sure.

First of all the boycotter's complain of not enough content being released for Left 4 Dead,

Yet Valve has released a game mode titled "Survival" along with the release of two campaigns

added to the "Versus" game mode. Later on this month, Valve will be releasing another

Campaign for Left 4 Dead titled "Crash Course" which will be a bridge between No Mercy and

Death Toll. Once Left 4 Dead 2 is released, Valve will still be adding content for the

original Left 4 Dead. I don't see why they complain about the "Lack" of content. When you

bought this game, You bought it to play the game, Not for the content that will be released

in the future, Valve dosen't need to release any Content if they do not wish to, and that

"Promise" of content they made to you is the very same thing your Boycotting. If this much

Content comes out, Then you must pay for it, Things in life aren't Free. Second, Left 4 Dead

2 can not be released as Downloadable Content for these reasons: (1) Left 4 Dead 2 now runs

with AI Director (2.0), Which is superior to the AI Director (1.0). AI Director (2.0) will

Change many things in the game, Including the games whether, The games routes that are taken

to reach a safe house, and tailor every 'zombies' clothing, In every spawn the zombie has.

That alone, To be added as Downloadable Content would take over 4 monthes, For a system like

the XBox 360, Not including the other features the AI Director (2.0) has. Reason (2) There

will be 5 New Campaigns, 4 New Survivors, Over 10 New Weapons, Including Melee Weapons, and

3 New Special Infected. These new Tools/AI would take a very long time to convert into

something small enough that it could be Downloadable Content, Maybe only 1 Campaign could

come out at a time, Which is pointless if were getting them all together, Including the

weapons and the Special Infected. Clearly you see why this cannot be "Free" as the

boycotters wish it to be. They also complain about the Release date of the game (November

17th 2009) not being enough time to polish content or make gameplay changes? Well, Of the

Gameplay I have seen of Left 4 Dead 2, I can say that they have definetly made many changes

to the environment, Which is another thing they complain about.. Being to colurful? This

game takes place in another area of the world, The environment changes throughout the world,

Which I think we 'Should' all know. Heh at this point I think they are just adding

Ridiculous reasons to the list. They complain of the music of when the Horde attack being

Disliked? Do you mean disliked by you, yourself? (Author of Boycott list) because then that

would be perfect to say, I in the other hand love the music, Along with almost the 3 million

members of the Left 4 Dead Commmunity. Well if they complain about the characters being

bland, I might agree alittle bit, But many people don't care who there playing as, aslong as

they enjoy fighting endless hordes of zombies. Most of the Boycotters will be first in line

the day of release, Which I find amusing. I think that we can all agree that 60$ Is a small

price to pay for the sequel of one of the greatest Multyplayer Games on the market.
