Learn all about BioShock 2

9:00 AM on 04.19.2009   |   Matthew Razak

Do you want to know every detail ever on BioShock2? You'll have to play the game. However, if you're willing to simply find out some new stuff about the game than GameSpot's exclusive 12 minute video should do the trick.

In it, 2K Marin developers discuss the game's story and other cool features, though it's pretty clear they don't want to give away more then we already know. There doesn't even seem to be any new footage in it. I also suggest not reading on if you want to keep the game and its features surprising.

The GameSpotters also got a chance to go hands-on with a part of the game called "Hunting the Big Sister." They had some words to say about the experience, including mentioning that while on the surface the game didn't seem that improved graphically, it did have plenty of smaller touches that looked good.

There is also a new gameplay mechanic that will let you takes strolls outside of the city which, by the way, is much more open and far larger than in the first game. Other gameplay mechanics include adopting Little Sisters, more power for your character and thus tougher bad guys and new exciting plasmids. If you want to ruin all the fun about discovering a new game I suggest you check it out and then watch the video below.

The whole harvest/adopt option is going to suck. In Bioshock I saved all of them because it was an easy choice and it didn't really effect you other than the amount and the ending. With this new choice you either take the Adam, or protect the little girl from slicers, which honestly is a really shitty choice.

I'm going to try and avoid too much about Bioshock 2 from now on. The first gameplay was really interesting, bt I think I'm going to try and keep track of it from a distance.

I read the article over at Gamestop earlier today. It sounds like they have made barely any bloody changes to the game at all so far. Here's hoping for a shake-up.

I'm not sure I can get over the innumerable points of stupidity in the plot for the game to even give any other part of it a chance...

I mean why is harvesting little sisters even an option now? It seems fairly implicit the starting basis of your existence is to specifically NOT do that. And they add a whole new gameplay mechanic that seems highly beneficial for not killing them as well. Though I suppose it would be amusing if killing them turns out to be the more "righteous" path, as they end up horribly scarred and hating life if you keep them going.

@Jack

Seconded. Escort missions are the bane of most gamers' existence.

I know game bloggers want to keep people interested and informed by showing new clips of gameplay and scenes, but there's a point where it gives away enough of the game to almost ruin it for me. And how long until it comes out?

I don't see how it can be considered "spoiling" by showing off fundemental gameplay features and such. That's like complaining that some website reveals that you can 'jump' in a Super Mario game, or swing a sword in a Zelda game.

It's not like they're going to reveal the big plot twist or anything (if they have one that rivals the original game).

Buh? Razak warned you twice before clicking.

After watching the video, I don't know about this one.

I think I would have prefered a game where you played as a splicer. I think the storyline and the moral choices would have been awesome, and plus you could choose whether you wanted to be a houdini splicer, leadhead splicer, ect.
Just the whole storyline of survivng as a splicer, and either fighting with other splicers for ADAM or working with them to take on a big daddy seems really cool to me.

So long as there's no plot spoilers I don't mind.

I'd still get it regardless of the content, but its nice to know what's coming beforehand. Now I can spend the next six months mentally preparing myself for getting pissed off at trying to guide some little sisters around!

I just hope there's a mini-game where you can become a pimp. Otherwise why the fuck are they called Big Daddies?

WTF? A Big Daddy using guns and plasmids? That doesn't make any sense. Their hands are fucking huge! Plus what's this about using plasmids? How does a Big Daddy even use plasmids? Wouldn't it make the game too easy to play? Think about it, what if Jack fought a gun toting plasmid wielding Big Daddy? Yea, Jack would be a red smear on the floor by now.

It's too early to be a Negative Nancy, people. I, myself, like the idea of playing as a Big Daddy. I just hope the developers capitalize on that and allow us to clobber splicers and what not. I don't see how the plot could have been continued on anyway else. Do you seriously expect Jack to go back again. Or maybe another hapless human somehow gets shipwrecked and finds himself in Rapture.

It sounds ok...but I like Cartman's idea waaaaaay better.

Plus the game wouldn't be the same exact experience every time, like Bioshock 1.

Ken Levine isn't having anything to do with Bio-shock 2, thats dissapointing so I'll keep my fingers crossed that this game will even be as good as the first.

That's the problem I have with the game , this + only 2 guns = annoying game
@Cartman
You , sir, are a genious , and if it had some sort of madness bar , that , by using EVO more and more you would slowly get mad (like Eternal Darkness) , and Rapture even more fucked up because of the first game ...

I don't get why it's so hard to be optimistic about this. There are still some developers of the original working on this, so it won't be terrible, but even if it is, OH WELL. It wouldn't be the first shitty game any of of us have ever played. You guys need to get over it and just accept the fact that the sequel is coming and there is nothing you can do about it. No matter how much you whine, it won't change shit. They aren't going cancel the game because a few fans of the original don't want their precious BioShock to have a potential stain on it's name (even though NOBODY has played it yet). Give this game a chance. After all, you won't know it sucks until you play it. You have to understand that the games industry is a BUSINESS, and sometimes there are things that are going to happen that you aren't going to like. Freedom of speech is great, but it is honestly a waste of breath when you complain about something you can't control.
