Leak! New Shin Megami Tensei game: Strange Journey photo

Yay! More Shin Megami Tensei!

A new teaser site posted by Atlus Japan had its beans spilled. The reveal payload was supposed to hit on July 24th, but some html digging revealed the game name via an image: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. What you see above is that logo, captured by this Japanese blog.

Being a revealed leak, we have nothing in the way of details other than what looks to be a release date. Is that October 8th? August 2010? You know what? Who the eff cares! It's new SMT!

Also, check out the image after the jump; it's what was originally a scrambled image. Now unscrambled, it looks like there's a hole in the South Pole.

I'm hoping this is the fabled SMT4. I've liked all the spinoffs, but I think it's time for a new flagship game.

I heard about this on the Devil Survivor board on GFAQs, but I don't think it was explicitly said that it was a new SMT game. Though, an apocalyptic RPG sounds good any day.

Here's hoping it's on a system I own! >_>;

For the love of the Demi-fiend, not another SMT: Devil Summoner: RK vs the Whogivesashit. Is a sequel to SMT: Nocturne too much to ask for?

@Gen Eric Gui: From the look of it it's probably a new spinoff series. In all likelihood, if they wanted to promote SMT4, they would have just displayed 真・女神転生IV.

@wastedyears: Nocturne doesn't lend itself to sequels and RK3 isn't going to come out just 15 months after RK2 (or worse for such a scenario, but better for all but the poorest of us, SIX months).

In any case, SOLD.

@Sir Unimaginative: What wasted years meant by a sequel to Nocturne was that he wants another main storyline SMT game, not another spin off like the Persona or the Devil Summoner series. Nocturne was SMT3 and hopefully this is SMT4.

I still have to beat a crap ton of other SMT games...

Better not be another portable game.

So many SMT games. Any other series/company I'd consider it an abuse of an IP... but this is ATLUS and SMT. Everything about them rocks. So bring it on Atlus. I'll be waiting for you with money in hand.

I hope to god this is SMT4 for PS3. SMT3 was fucking amazing for its time, and seeing how far Atlus and RPGs and technology has come I can only imagine what they can do on a current gen console.

@Sir Unimaginative: I disagree. The Vortex world in Nocturne was said to be only one of thousands. They could easily have another game set in a post-armageddon environment. It might not necessarily be a direct sequel to SMT:N, but SMT:N wasn't a direct sequel to SMT 2, either. And if it is SMT4, then it would be in essence a sequel to SMT:N.

Ya, PS2 games are pretty sweet, but I want to see the series evolve onto the next platforms. I wonder what they could do with the added horsepower of the PS3 or 360?

It'll definitely be a PS2 game. It'd be nice if it was current gen though. We'll have to see when details are revealed.

@wastedyears: Yeah, but that would make it a sequel in the sense that a Final Fantasy game is a sequel (read: not all that much).

... You know, that makes this argument kinda silly.
