I quit playing solo queues competitively after I found out Riot Game's official stance on the lack of a good matchmaking system was "50% of the time you get leavers/quitters/trolls - deal with it", but un-ranked Dominion is still pretty fun.

Congressman Jared Polis, one of the few awesome voices fighting SOPA during that hearing a couple months back, is apparently an active League of Legends player and posted on the LoL forums urging gamers to oppose SOPA.

This is great to hear. I love League of Legends as a game. So much so that I have very little interest in other MOBA's. At the core of League's success is Riot Games dedication to the community. Basically, most of Riot's decisions for how they manage League is informed by them basically just being cool people. This personality of theirs is just reinforced by their dedication to the rights of all people using the internet.
As an aside to Magnalon - Riot has strict systems in place that suspends people who are reported for leaving games. I had even been suspended for being forced to drop games due to internet issues. but there is a balance; if I had been banned for a few drops, I would've been pissed. They've increased their reinforcement of good gamesmanship by reward people with in-game currency(the sort that usually must me be bought with real money) who haven't been reported for bad behavior.

LoL is pretty awesome. Not as awesome if you don't have dedicated people to play with though. It's very much a team game, and even if you're awesome you'll still get paired with people who are terrible and thus lose.
I might go back to it eventually, but without others to play with it's just not that appealing.

I completely understand why Riot Games would oppose the bill. A good deal of revenue and buzz surrounding the game comes from people streaming League matches, as well as web streaming of all the tournaments too.
Since SOPA directly threatens that, Riot would have been stupid not to fight it. Such a thing would really hurt the community involvement.

More developers need to take this stance. Im' glad for Riot.
Also, I've never played LoL, but I've watched some friends play it and I have to say, I love the character designs. Pretty awesome stuff.

If they can turn the violent, overflowing, directionless rage of their fanbase against SOPA then I pity what will happen to those people who support it. There aren't many things that could make me feel bad for SOPA supporters but Riot has a low-yield nuclear bomb of terribleness to unleash if they so choose.
What Harris said. I've never experience a community quite as hostile as LoL. It was enough to make me only play matches with one friend against bots. Them peoples be crazy.

Also, another big issue (that you can't prove) is pre-game chat. For instance, the first choice in our draft picks a Jungler; second picks a tank; the third player also picks a jungler then stays silent. During the game both players fight over jungling but the third player never responds to the team. This has happened way too many times and I've gotten matched up with (and against) way too many trolls for ranked to be worth my time. In ranked, every player matters - if one person refuses to listen, they most likely won't get banned unless they react negatively to it, and it will ruin that team.

@pbrand: They've already come out publically against SOPA, provided form letters for harassing the ESA and VGVN about it, and Jim's been keeping the issue on the front page lately. They're certainly not sitting on the sidelines.
As for a blackout, there's no word on that. I think it's a neat idea in principle as activism goes, but it's up to each individual site to decide whether this sort of action is right for them.

@pangloss: Except they are still part of Revision 3, which still has Destructoid coupons for GoDaddy.com signup. Thus, still support SOPA.

@Rammstein: They also switched their domain away from GoDaddy.com, which is a way bigger deal than the coupons. Would I like to see that part change? Sure. But they've taken big steps in the right direction. And (bullshit though it is) GoDaddy has backed off their SOPA support.

@Flintmech: Epic Games do not support SOPA but they are still part of the ESA which does. How is Destructoid different? Get my drift now?

I quit LoL a few Months ago. But I like what they are doing. Just hate the patches. Mainly what they did to the jungle.

From what I've seen, The Show itself has dropped the ads (as the above video Taerdin linked indicates), but Revision3 itself is still supporting GoDaddy - this is based on a few people who work on the multitude of shows on the site. Their partnership with GoDaddy runs deep.
For me (I can't speak for anyone else), highlighting this has nothing to do with any other SOPA coverage. I LOVE the SOPA coverage (I'd like more of it, as people seem to not understand what it is. As a side note, how about a dedicated bar on the side or top? Something that's permanently there explaining that Dtoid is against it, and what SOPA actually is - maybe a clean graphic or logo).

I don't know the inner workings of Dtoid's deal with Rev3. I *do* know that, obviously, agreements and contracts have signatures on them that would stop Dtoid simply pulling the show away from Rev3 entirely.
I may not know all of the business side of Dtoid, but even a remedial could tell you that it's not quite as simple as saying, "Oh hey, you work with GoDaddy, we will instantly cease our business with you."

Maybe not, but if you take a good hard look at Riot Games' business model, which is wrapped up heavily in E-sports, and by extension live streams and community-made content, has a great deal to lose from SOPA. Whether it takes any 'guts' or not is irrelevant, it's the right stance to take.
