LBP user-created levels might be playable in LBP 2 photo

Media Molecule head honcho Alex Evans doesn’t want to abandon the LittleBigPlanet community when the studio starts work on LBP 2. In a recent interview, Evans stated that he wants to bring over user-created levels from the original to the inevitable sequel -- something he dubbed as “backwards compatibility.” But it might not be so innocent: Evans suggested that Sony or Media Molecule could charge people for the pleasure to play the created levels.

“We can give them backwards compatibility with those levels, and then when you decide on how you're going to sell that to them," Evans told GI.biz, "... all I'm saying is we've got loads of options open to us, and we can pick really late. We can make them in a year's time, or whenever we want to ship - and that's really useful for a developer, you can make a fine grain decision about what the price point is, or how you dice it."

"We could do a version with every level available on subscription, or something like that,” he continued. “I don't know what we'll do, but it's really exciting that we can make those choices, and make them late in the day."

Just to be clear: LBP 2 hasn’t been announced and obviously anything Evans says now is subject to change. Games take forever to make and ideas are often thrown to the curb as they take shape. So, we’ll have to wait and see on this one.

Charging for user generated content?

Looks like the critical acclaim of LBP has gone to someones head a bit!

Yeah, the fun of LBP is in playing some of the shit user created levels that you wouldn't pay for, they're funny. I for one would not pay for user created levels, I've played some really good ones, but nothing i would pay for.

Surely they make enough from all the DLC? Surely they don't need to squeeze more money out of us?!

All you've got to do now mM is fix those fucking Play, Create, Share ratings!!

I'm more excited for ModNation than LBP2.

Good news, it'd be annoying if you had to create your level from scratch all over again.

They are making a LBP 2? I guess that's nice for PS3 owners.

(Looks lovingly at receipt for order of NSMBW)

Uh, is there any reason why this would be difficult to do and give to the people for free? Who is going to pay for LBP1 user levels when there will be an active enough community making LBP2 levels?

Nobody's going to pay to play anything user created. Many levels I've jumped into were more of a headache because of their shittiness. But I think it'd be difficult for MM to bring LBP1 levels to LBP2. If they change anything at all in the engine or how levels are constructed, I foresee glitches galore.

I guess it would be cool but I also don't mind if I have to create new levels. It really depends on how and what LBP2 is. Heck they don't even know what LBP2 is going to be. So we'll just have to wait.

brainderailment's got it right. Nobody wants to pay for a game with little content. We pay for the gameplay made by professionals. Who wants to wade through thousands of Mario Bros. or Mega Man level remakes to get to 1 level that is half-decent. LBP sold horribly because it has little content. LBP2 will also sell horribly because of little content. NSMBW will sell tremendously because of much content.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH 1000TH POST FOR ME :D

If they charge for playing user created levels that would be going against: one, the PS networks motto of being free for anyone to play and two, disregarding the "share" part of play create share slogan that was with the first game. Normally when you share something you do it for free, I let my friend borrow a game from me for a price. Anyways I really don't think that will be a problem, MM and Sony would shoot the selves in the foot if they charged for user created levels. And another thing there would be a massive cluster fuck of people wanting to get a cut of that money too. Keep it free keep it simple and keep the servers from going nuts.

On another note Im surprised that there are making a squeal after all the talk in the press of how this game just bombed in the sales department. Thank you Sony for not giving up on MM. A lesser publisher would of flipped MM the bird.
