Lazy people: Netflix queue management 'is meant to be on the PC' photo

Netflix is easily one of the most used features on Microsoft’s New Xbox Experience. The integration allows users to queue up movies via their PC and stream them digitally through their Xbox 360. One of the loudest complaints about this process is the middleman – the PC. Why can’t you just pick a movie or a television show straight from the Netflix tab on the 360? It is because Netflix doesn’t want you to.

Recently MTV Mutliplayer caught up with Microsoft product manager Aaron Greenburg and had him explain the need for a PC:

What the Netflix guys will tell you [is] that queue management is meant to be on the PC, where you can search a lot of content and see reviews. On the Xbox 360, the idea was this was supposed to be a viewing experience. That’s the way we designed it… We’ve heard the feedback and I think the team will look at what the options [are].
Greenburg also pointed out that Netflix has done a crazy good job at grabbing more content for streaming. Last year the company offered 5,000 movies and television programs. Now, it is close to 15,000. Unfortunately, those are 15,000 items that we still can’t queue up from the comfort of our couches.

wtf, are people that lazy they can't get off the couch and walk what 10-15 feet tops over to your computer to add movies to your que? Honestly its faster browsing that stuff on the website, I can only imagine the cumbersome system that would be involved trying to browse it on the 360.

Wait, what?? You need a PC as a middleman?

Well, like it matters, I'm red-ringin' it right now anyway...

Well, I think it's taking it that people already have a back catalog of things in their Que.

Maybe that now that people have nothing on there Que, they don't want to boot up there PC's just to add a few more movies.

Personally, I don't know. My 360 is full of superglue, so I can't have my take on Netflix on my 360.

Plus....I don't have Netflix.

I think that using a keyboard to type in titles and a mouse to navigate is infinitely easier than slogging through menus would be on the 360.

And where are people keeping their PCs, the furnace? The Instant Queue limit is ridiculously high, so just toss a bunch in there, sit back, and relax.

Also, Ghostbusters.

Yeah, like The Dark Knight. The most recent good movie I saw in there was No Country for Old Men.

working the queue on the PC works good enough for me. I like the uncluttered interface of the Nexflix xbox thingy

Being able to browse titles from the 360 would be convenient, but I already manage my account from my PC anyway, so it really isn't a problem.

I for one never used netflix's streaming capabilities before they did the thing with the 360.
I found no problems going to my computer to add new shows and whatever...but it would be nice to delete something off of the que after I watch it, not the next time I log into netflix.
Plus I think it would be nice it it arranged TV shows in how often you play them. I often que a few seasons of a show up, and then que up the latest season, only to forget to bring it to the front. So every time I go to watch The Office Season 4, I have to scroll to the end of my que. I just don't think about it when I am on my computer though.

@ElRhino

You can delete things off your que from the 360, there is an option to delete it once you select it.

If you have a media center PC extended to your xbox, you can use vmcNetFlix to browse and play.

This isn't really a big issue for me, because I've now queued up hundreds of hours of television that I've missed out on in the past eight years, so I'm fine with just visualizing it on the 360 now. The big problem, and one that will cause me to cancel my Netflix membership if it is not remedied soon, is the poor speed, where a show will start out in HD and run for about a minute, before Netflix slows down and it chugs to YouTube quality at some points.

No! No, no, no. Goddammit don't criticize the Netflix feature. It is perfectly fine the way it is. Don't ruin this for me.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Solution: Get a smartphone/laptop with web browsing capabilities and manage your queue from the couch like all truly lazy geeks do.

My solution is just simple enough to work AND make me look elitist at the same time.

I keep hearing the speed complaint but haven't seen it. I've been watching around 8 hours of Netflix content a week (1 or 2 in HD), and have only had it adjust quality in the middle of playback perhaps half a dozen times. Is has never actually affected playback quality.

I will complain about how fastforwarding and rewinding work though.
