I...actually didn't think it was that bad of a commercial/trailer thingie. I've certainly seen worse.

This has nothing on those creepy 90s skittles commercials "taste the rainbow" Jim. But yeah it was fucking odd, I was more confused at the end when they have 4 dudes rallying crying to take out a dragon.

I heard this game was pretty easy though. Didn't that one dude "reclaim what was ours" before the game was even released?
Other than the fact that had it not been for that last 45 seconds the whole of the commercial could have been for any generic ass thing. It wasn't terrible...... just sorta ...... wtf :P
And to think that a (minor) few people thought the Mists of Pandaria's cinematic was bad! Look at all the GayWars2™ players defending this God awful garbage. It was as if I was watching a Linkin Park music video and then the weeaboo characters came out. Shit was(wait for it)...

I can't imagine a single person -- gamer or otherwise -- who would see this and think "Wow, I should look into this Guild Wars 2 business!"

To add to what Scuffles said, up until the last bit when the world went all Guild Wars 2, this could have been a commercial for the following:
-some new kind of gum that's all like "it chills you to the taint!"
-sneakers that promise to give you goat legs
-a phone that can double as roll on deodorant
-birth control for German models and parkour experts
-hippie proms
-The Mormon Church

I was gonna say that some times you can be a tad melodramatic Jim Sterling, but you are right on the money on this one. Thats just a terrible advertisement, its misleading on top of being super cheesey/dumb.
Just as your one rose out of the water with tattoos forming on her face, I'm imagining whoever is playing as the bull guy is wearing a steak as a hat. Gamers Unite!

My biggest gripe is, that they showed Zhaitan...they kept his appearance secret for so long and then they just show him like this without warning...wtf...I am disappoint...
HMM??? Why is this bad ? That actually makes me wanna go out today and buy the game. More than a Gameplay action packed commercial on dubstep.

The live action part was cringeworthy, the switch to in-game visuals was hilarious. An actual "lol", in fact.
If anything that reminded me of the Enjoy the Movie Coca Cola commercial they show at movie theaters before the movie starts.
Was that was underwhelming. Seems like a pretty normal trailer to me. I hate live-action trailers anyway, but they sort of make sense in an MMO advert.
I can't believe all the hate this commercial is getting. This is my first post ever here and I'm only commenting b/c I felt like I had to.
This commercial was AWESOME. They took a risk and did something completely out there. It was a very artistic, well produced commercial that was trying to prove a point. Guild Wars 2 is about breaking the mold of the common and over done mmo formula. Hence the guy encrusted. Notice the orange and red colors breaking out of the mold. It's about coming together towards a common goal. The people doing the hot coal walking. They are trying to show that it's about working as one. The under water living room scene was the transition from the "real world" INTO the game and she came out of the water now as her avatar with her allies ready to fight the dragon.
I thought it proved a point, it completely went the opposite direction of most trailers showing either an in game cut scene or just random gameplay. It perfectly transitioned from the real world into the game world bringing all different kinds of people together as one.
Yet it's getting slammed b/c they took a risk and tried to do something different. Lovely. Regardless, if you love or hate this trailer one thing is for sure this game is AWESOME and I recommend it to anyone wanting something different!

It's not THAT bad of a commercial. The problem is it has present-day people on reality earth, when the game is fantasy-land. Real World people "Uniting to save imaginary land" is the one stupid concept that makes the commercial laughable.
I love Guild Wars, and I don't get this. What the hell were they thinking? There's just no connection between the live action stuff and the game.

Not much worse than most game trailers, but I think ANet should have stayed away from "live action" and done something based solely on their concept art.
Also I think live action trailers for games are REALLY fucking stupid to begin with, and should just stop existing.
I didn't like it but I'm pretty sure the ad was meant to grab the late WoW crowd and now for the "I already own Guild Wars 2 crowd"
