Latin America getting localized games...and a PS2 bundle photo

A press release from Sony says that Latin America will get localized "blockbuster" games in 2011. That's good news for them. Killzone 3 and inFAMOUS 2 are coming in Spanish. Killzone 3 will also get 3D and Move support as well as a  Portuguese language version. Killzone 3 will be available there in February 2011 while inFAMOUS 2 will follow in the spring. Muy bueno.

What's crazy is that there's still PS2s being sold. Latin America gets a new bundle called the PlayStation 2 Gamer Kit. This kit contains a PlayStation 2 system, two controllers, an 8MB Memory Card, and three unnamed games. The PSP gets a kit too. The PSP Gamer Kit  bundles a PSP system, a Traveler’s Case, and three games. Both will be available in August.

Exciting. May get a bundle for my cousins. Happy that Sony has the forward thinking to get into the Latin American market early as they did with Europe.

Latin America has the potencial to become one of the biggest markets for games.
But, the problem here (Brazil) is that the taxes over games are too high.
So the prices are far more absurd than you would expect.

people bitched about the 600USD tag back then when here it was around 1300USD. Fucking taxes.

About time. Some other companies have been doing this for years. I'm always surprised when I visit Panama to see mostly English titles when many people I've come across don't understand English.

When China takes over, we'll all have to learn Mandarin anyways, so why even bother localizing anything anymore...

yeah but the fact that they were in English before is what helped me to understand the language. And a lot of comics and cable TV. Nowadays everything is translated, kids don't have a reason to learn English anymore. Kinda sad.

Is still MUCH cheaper to import games from the US here than buying them officialy at the sony retail stores.
It's great to see them bringing games to latin america, but they have to change the prices , a ps3 game can't cost 120 u$s or more like some of the games they are selling right now.

We can live up with high priced consoles (we pay for them just one time) but the real problem is with the games, blame the taxes (at least in Brazil).
Nice try Sony, but I'm not heppy yet, but don't worry, It's not your falt.

Videogames are very expensive down here... i never had a PS2 but i would love to had one someday, they cost about $200.
The PS3 is about $500, i bought mine 2 years ago and payed $700 for it. New games are about $80, that's why there's a lot of piracy and a huge market of used games

Anyway.. i do not know anybody who want play a game in spanish. We rater have subtitles than dubs

I use to live in Brazil and yeah, video games are REALLY expensive. I have a friend whose father goes there every summer with like 3 PS3's and sells them for thousands. I remember watching the news (Brazilian news) about the Wii and how much it was for. I'm pretty sure it was over thousands. I gave up my Genesis to my cousins down there and they still play it. Another reason why I love living in the US.

Play the game in whatever language it was originaly dubbed for Ass Creed 2 seemed sorta odd in English, but the voice acting matched much better in Italian.

I remember when I visited Venezuela last year and went with my cousins to the mall where they lived. I went to the game store they had in the mall and they were charging 50$ for DS games and 75$ for Wii games, I literally wtf'd in the store, then proceeded to buy them each 3 wii games.

South American prices are insane.

Nice... Still Sony is already kinda generous here... What we need is Nintendo STOPING TO BE SO ASSHOLE, Nintendo of Latin America is really a pussy, letting other companies the console sellings and... Seriously, never works well, prices are so insanely expensive, also it is really hard to get games properly due the taxes and the bad distribution, imagine... Mario Galaxy costs like... Let's see...

Like 49.99, but here... The taxes adds like 200 pesos (like 16 dollars), plus the shipping, plus the profit of the distribuitor, which together are another 200 pesos, seriously HURTS A LOT, I do happen to live in the frontier, so doesn't really matter me too much, but, if they're for example dubbing Metroid Other M here (and most of the Latinos knows that Mexican dub kicks so much ass... Although that dub strike affected them a lot...) and they do a awesome job, and makes me the things easier, and I can't buy it in the USA due they got sold out, wouldn't be convenient? With nice prices and good distribution, I think everyone on Latin America should be happy...

I'm glad Sony takes this wise decision... We need Nintendo DOES THIS

I'm mexican and I can tell you: Localized games suck. Usually the translation and spanish are SO bad that you want to just F'ing mute the TV. There are really nice exceptions though, like Xbox's Gears of war (the same actors that did the voice acting in Dragon Ball Z anime, do the acting in GOW and they're really good). But there are some aberrations like Halo 3 that make you want to tear your ears apart. Also I think you kind of lose some of the things that can make a game great, like jokes that only make sense in japanese -I know a little jap- or in english, the personalities of the characters are usually altered (unfortunately for the worse). Sometimes even menus and stuff take a turn for the worse. Maybe if I were six and I had a freakin Wii with only casual games like cooking mama and such I'd be in the need to be able to listen to the game in spanish. But here in Mexico, I think the majority of the people with access to videogames have a decent level of english comprehention. I think localized games are mutilation. Have you ever read Shakespeare's plays in spanish? It's just not the same. Have you ever read Octavio Paz's essays in english? I doubt they would even make sense.

Who cares about spanish games? most gamers in latin america can get around in english games, what we really want is access to the movie store, a lot of people would buy HD movies even if they're not in spanish or portuguese, I don't understand why they're not taking advantage of this market, it's not like people here go running to buy $40+ blurays anyways...

Imagine yourself going to the store and ask for the price of a game and you get as answer "$120" then going to see how much its priced in Amazon and you see "$29", where will you buy it?
Thats the reality here in Costa Rica, so no thanks, I dont care for crappy translations (must of the time they are) and overpriced products thanks to the taxes.

It's Sad to be a Brazilian gamer, not only the prices are absurd, but it's hard to find someone to go "couch gaming", seeing an old game for almost U$ 100,00 is painful, and I didn't even mention Rock Band yet, now THAT is expensive.

good to see some portuguese love. hope its not with Portugal accent, thats just not cool. Spanish its in almost every game from europe and even US, so its kind of easy to get. Portuguese from Brasil, only saw in like 2 games all my life.

I agree games here are stupidly expansive, consoles versions. The PC games are pretty cheap, starcraft 2 is like $30 here. console games are 150% more expansive, damn taxes. thanks for ebay and stuff like that I can still buy them fare.

The article is just rude, if you don't know how things are in here, don't star writing bullsh*t. In Argentina, a PS3 is US$549, that is like $1600 pesos(the local currency). So it's logical that we are still buying PS2, unlinke you yankees, we don't get things cheap.

I like the idea. I know lots of people who have to put up with gallego spanish, just cause they understand little english, or simply don't want to read dubs...
If they get Mexican actors I'm all up for it... maybe mix it up with some Argentine or colombian accents here and there... but it's better than actual spanish

I don't need it, most of the time things get lost in translation, I'm comfortable as long as it has the original english version

problem is it's gonna be quite expensive...

what I want is Latin PSN, why the hell aren't we allow to purchase movies? I understand they have to work out distribution rights and what not (specially for TV shows) but why not give us a selection to choose from. it's not like it's getting pirated. Games are purchased just as easily :\, why videos can't?

also more versatile technical support for South America would be nice :D
