Unsure about L.A. Noire in any way, shape, or form? Watch this! It's a lengthy trailer that runs down, well, what Team Bondi's open-world game is actually like, outside of its character's facial expressions.

The bits and pieces of footage shown so far haven't been terribly revealing, but that ends here. Personally, I was afraid L.A. Noire would be entirely shootouts and mindless action sequences; based on this video, there will be a fair amount of case solving, interrogating, and other detective duties. Rad.

My cautious optimism has moved into plain old optimism. Just barely. I'm still not convinced in terms of how much of the game is GTA-esque shenanigans versus how much is uncovering crimes. How are y'all feeling on this one?

I seriously can't wait. Everything about it's ticking the right boxes for me, the facial expressions, the visual style, the jazz soundtrack.

I want this game inside me. Right now.

Meh for some reason I want to like this game but it looks incredibly boring. Maybe it's the main character. He kind of looks like he has down syndrome and has the most boring voice ever.

After the massive disappointment of GTA IV, Rockstar won me back with Red Dead Redemption. If this ends up being even remotely as engrossing as RDR, I'm in.

Holy shit. Sold and a half. Interrogations look awesome, shooting looks tight and focused, and sounds like there's going to be enough to keep me busy for a long time.

Rockstar, you've won me back.

I really like the concept of reading an actor's facial expressions as a key gameplay mechanic. Hopefully the investigations lead to multiple conclusions, seeing as how the replay value might suffer if there's only one correct path for each case.

It does look like a GTA reskin but solving crimes and picking cases from your desk sounds bad ass.

Can I choose to sip coffee and beat hookers as well? It's kind of odd that GTA went from "Kill everyone" to putting you in the shoes od the cops, I think this could be a very cool game....ICE COLD.

Seems like a mix of GTA and Heavy Rain, which is good. Honestly, I hope the action is very intermittent. After playing so many GTAs and even Read Dead, the gunplay in their open-world games is something I've played to death. It's also always so far in the forefront, that none of it stands out or is thematically tense. Whenever my character goes to do a minor task, I have to wonder, when is it going to go to shit and I have to fight 40 guys? It's always ridiculous too, when I think, "My character has literally killed hundreds of people", making each kill pretty much meaningless. I'd really rather see an open world game that makes you do something completely different, and this game seems to be heading in the right direction. Here's hoping.

To be honest, I was actually worried there wouldn't be ENOUGH action sequences. From the magazine articles and some interviews I've read, there was very little mention of gameplay outside of crime scenes and interrogations. Which would be really cool for a while but I was worried it'd become stale after a while. But this looks like a really good blend, seems like a lot of variety. The characters' bodies might look a bit stiff but the faces are still stunning. Really looking forward to this.

I'm really looking forward to this. I absolutely love the noir style, I'm a huge fan of Raymond Chandler, so this is a no brainer for me. My one complaint so far, and I'm hoping that it's just because it's still in production is that sometimes the voices don't sound like they blend with the rest of the sound. Some of those voices sound like the characters are in a very small bathroom, the sound booth acoustics are really noticeable.

One of the main problems I had with Red Dead Redemption was that the gunplay was too easy. I know this isn't an in-house Rockstar game, but I hope the same doesn't happen here.

Reminds me of RDR which both good and bad.

The bad being that the game's story wasn't nearly as good as people claim it is. It was decent, but it was sloppy all over. It really bored me to death most of the time, though when it did it right, it did it very right (like the ending).

Also, there's the disconnect at times with the story, the character and the gameplay. Giving someone an open world where they can do anything ends up making characters look hypocritical.

Here, at least, I'm hoping to avoid those issues since the game looks like it'll be more story oriented and otherwise just eyecandy. There's room in this world for both, but Rockstar needs to do better next time they make a really open world with balancing the characters they have. It's hard to connect with a character who says one thing and then you control him while he does the very opposite without it changing anything.

@Drakengard,

A) For the 100,000,000th time.. Rockstar isn't making this game. I swear this needs to be posted everytime there's a story about LA Noire.
B) RDR's story was great in that it was exactly what it was meant to be. A spaghetti western. In that regards, whether you like it or not, it seemed to resonate with people and was a great success. I wish more games had the slower pace of RDR. Although I have no idea what you actually mean by "sloppy" or "did it right".

Wow just...wow. I haven't seen any of the LA Noire trailers until now, and I gotta say that facial animation tech is fucking amazing! I can't even imagine that tech being used for future games...it's going to be mind blowing. I heard this game is going to be like a 3d Phoenix Wright instead of a GTA type game, and that seems pretty cool. I think I now have to go watch Chinatown again.

Guess I'll be picking this up. What worries me more though, is that it looks like Rockstar have spent more on the faces/emo systems etc (very cool indeed), but still have done nothing to that clunky third person combat sections. The way that character moves when under fire, with no sense of personal danger, fear, evasion or urgency worries me, as it did in GTAIV.

If this game is to be taken seriously as they want it to be, especially if this main character is supposed to be a war hero/vet, his actions and tactics in a shoot out should reflect such experiences. Remember Rockstar, your body actions/reactions matter just as much as being questioned, and looking for facial tells.
