The new Tomb Raider tells the tale of a young Lara Croft on her way to her first real adventure. The ship she's on is ravaged by a storm and sees Lara waking up on a mysterious island. She survived, but she must struggle to survive the hardships of the island.
We'll be bringing your more Tomb Raider next week at E3. Until then, what do you think of this new and gritty look at Lara Croft?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

When I was a kid I used to fantasize about a pointy tit Lara Croft and as her character model evolved she became less and less appealing because she wasn't quite what I saw through all those pixels. It's nice to see the developers bringing me a Lara that more closely resembles the one in my dreams and helping me relive those old childhood fantasies of mine. She looks amazing.
I always felt like Lara Croft would be a much more intriguing character if they lost the ridiculous proportions and campy James Bond-ian dialogue. This seems to do away with both of those concerns (but still, I saw some cleavage in there, whoo!).
I have to say, I'm slightly intrigued. I was never a Lara Croft Fan ( I was too young when the first game was released to enjoy fapping furiously over her pointy breasts , nay, even know what fapping was.) but this reboot makes the character seem quite interesting, a bit more human. That robotic voice acting needs to go though.
Love the new direction this series is taking. I don't understand why everyone is complaining about the voice acting, the actual actor sounds good and seems to fit this Lara and the reason it seems 'robotic' is more the Trailer's 'storyline' than the actual actor's doing.
She kinda looks likes an amalgamation of everything that makes up a super model. I would have preferred it if they made her look more like an average person, but I never got into this series, so I have no reason to complain.
@DAVYDOCK
Underworld was fantastic. I put it right up there with both Uncharteds as the best adventure games of this gen. If this game is as good or better, I'll be as happy as a clam.
Gears 3 was the game I was most looking forward to for the later half of this year with TR a close second, but I think that after this and the last Gears trailer, Lara has just about taken the #1 spot. The voice acting was a little dodgy on one line there and I don't really like Lara having some random bloke save her, for me one of Lara's largesta nd most defining assets is that she's pretty much super woman and able to do damn near everything by herself, but whatever, we'll see how that plays out in the finished game. For now though, trailer is rockin'.
Alright, Square Enix needs to start making more CG movies. I already thought I was watching a live action movie trailer just from the opening with the boat and the first shot of Laura from behind. Too incredible for words.
That was a terrible and overly dramatic trailer. I'm sure the game will fare well, but that was just so cliche and uninspired. Tomb Raider games are essentially Indiana Jones-like adventures, and we get a trailer for a humorless Gilligan's Island? What the fuck!?
Underworld is certainly an underrated gem of a game, yes.
I do hope with this new one that they keep the focus on exploration and Lara vs Environment, rather then pulling an Uncharted and having lots of combat. Just to keep things different, of course.
Looks great! I have enjoyed the last few games. Legend was the first Tomb Raider game I played at any length and I thought it was great. Still have to see some gameplay of course.
To this day I havn't really played any of the Tomb Raider games but I like the direction this seems to be going.
But please please PLEASE can't we quit the whole, naming a game the same as the original?
Is it really that hard to come up with a title?
Like, survivor, Abandoned, S.O.S, Stranded, Instinct
Sonic the Hedgehog
Mortal Kombat
Splatterhouse
Wolfenstein
Alone in the Dark
And usually it's just a cheap way for a bad game to gain some notice,
Movies does it alot more though.
It would surprise me if the next GTA game isn't gonna be called GTA:V but rather "THE Grand Theft Auto" to make it more hip and couuuuel... Since a lot of casuals are to stupid to even read Roman numerals anyways.
And I believe I ended up a little off topic there:)
I wish they'd keep it cheesy and fun. The super serious direction they seem to be taking it turns me right off.
I hope they manage to get some silliness in there.
Other than that I just want to see some gameplay. All these cinematic trailers are dumb! What's the point??
Well it's nice that they're doing a proper reboot - instead of just doing what Core did for like 10 years which was just up-ing the resolution slightly with each new game and adding another skimpy costume - but I think i'll wait for a demo/review before I express any interest whatsoever in buying it.
@DAVYDOCK We were talking about new Lara being a dirty girl, so very very dirty! Also i agree with you about Underworld, i recently played it again (Tomb Raider Trilogy) and its so gorgeous that it can bring a grown man to tears!

Anyone love Underworld? Best Tomb Raider of this Generation...until this one comes out of course. I hope the charm is still there and the theme song.
Now if you would excuse me....

im guessing Square's Visual Art Works is working with the CGI the same thing they did with Deus Ex Human Revolution huh?

I had no interest in rebooting Croft, this trailer pretty much keeps it that way.
The gaming industry really needs help in better writing. "In my dahkest houwa I knew what I had to become." typical line from a video game..
I hope they manage to get some silliness in there.
Other than that I just want to see some gameplay. All these cinematic trailers are dumb! What's the point??
The self-narrated cutscenes remind me of Other M, though. I hope it doesn't turn out like that game.
Underrated a tad, the graphics and ambient music were just beautiful. The openess of the level design reminded me of the older games.
Lmao Yep you are using it correctly my good man!
Wait what's this about again?
