As usual, you told your story quite well. Loved it!
@knutaf - I know, right? Different times, different times. I never got around to Mario DDR, I think I'd lost the bug by the time it came out. I heard the same, though, that hardcore players found it far too easy.
@SigfriedLion - God damn, those rock songs were hard weren't they? For some strange reason, the techno was just easier to follow. Any of those country or rock inspired songs were so damned hard to keep up with. I think I did alright on that one, if I recall, but I did have a at least an A ranking across the board on all the Heavy songs I'd played, if I recall.
As always, a lovely blog.
Mostly bad. Another great Bloggers Wanted, Ben. How do you do it?
I'm with you 100%. Talent is talent, whether subjective opinion declares it meaningless or not. I'm just as impressed with the world's best Street Fighter player as I am with the world's best billiards player or that guy who can throw frisbees into trash cans from really far away.
@Occams electric toothbrush - DDR had a particular audience I'm not always proud to have been a part of, to be brutally honest. Most of the time, it meant someone in baggy apron-pants and Korn t-shirt making a snarky sneer with his unshaven, scraggly upper-lip as he waits to try and beat your score so he can feel better about his community college degree in communications.
But there were those really passionate and nice people who just wanted to get good and impress their friends. I'd like to think we were more in that category.
@Corduroy Turtle - I want to write a goddamn book about arcade life. It has it's own atmosphere, quirky rules, and social code. It's such a weird place of success and failure intermingling at equal measure. Haunting.
Also, my secret to writing is quitting your job, giving fuck-all concern to your lack of progress toward being paid to be a writer, and just not stopping for god-damned anything. That's the philosophy powering this engine right now.
If it means anything, I think you have the chops to make it as a writer. Your blogs are consistently amazing.
No stalker, but the other day I sat down and read through a good portion of your previous blogs and was just blown away by the quality. Really good stuff man.
Give me a lightgun game and I think I'm Dirty Harry or John McClane, though. I will even hold the gun correctly, complete with stance. Damn, you should have seen me on Lethal Enforcers 3/Seigi no Hero. I did not piss about with that game.
In unrelated news, this is why they need to stop passing everything through in a week. I completely missed this the first time around. So frustrating! That's it, I'm blogging again next week.
