L.A. Noire to ship on three Xbox 360 discs photo

Rockstar has confirmed that L.A. Noire will require three DVDs to contain all of its facial expressions and digital pubic hair, compared to the single Blu-ray that the PS3 version will need.

"To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs," stated Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera. "Since the game is built around the concept of progressing through individual cases from desk to desk, players on Xbox will find disc-swapping is hassle-free.

"In fact, players will only need to swap discs twice at natural breaks between cases without interrupting the flow of the game."

I can't say disc-swapping has ever been a major issue to myself. It's not like you have to crawl naked through a desert of thorns to get to your disc tray. Nonetheless, it's always been a problem to some people, so this news is for them. Should disc-swapping be like battery acid to your soul, get the PS3 version!

Disc swapping should only matter if the game will make you swap back and forth to the previous discs for part of the game world/quests/etc...

Other than that, it shouldn't really matter.

Only problem I've ever had with swapping was when they made you do it a lot. Only swapping as the game goes on? Sounds fine.

Disc swapping has yet to bother me. Though to be honest, I'll probably just get the PS3 version. A single player game with that much in it is pretty much just what I need for my still-offline PS3.

And the disc swapping will still take less time than the mandatory install on the PS3 version.
So, who cares?

I know it's not a huge deal but I dislike disc swapping, so unless the PS3 version has some seriously crippling issues, I'll probably go with that.

If the game if is still a reasonable price then I'm all for this. Better to have a good game on 3 disks then an average game 1 disk.

Wanna know a game that had fucked up disc swapping? Fear Effect 2. It had four discs, and the swapping order went 1 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 3 > 4 > 2 > 3.

I always viewed it as the more discs, the bigger the game. I know it's not true but it's how I view it.

@Stephanie K

That's what I was wondering. A lot of that might be replicated over the three disks, though, with the cut scenes demanding most of the storage space.

As primarily a PC gamer, switching discs isn't something I consider to be a big deal. I would rather they require an extra disc than use compression that results in lost quality.

Better a game comes on 3 discs than with all the assets compressed as fuck on 1 disc, so it's only a good thing for the 360 crowd. I'm picking up the ps3 copy in any case, as I doubt we'll see this game on pc for some reason

Ehh, I'm used to it, I loved my ps one, and just about any game longer than 10 hours had disk swapping, but none the less, I think ima go with the ps3 version, it needs some mulitplatform love from me.

True, but with PS3 you have to install the fucking game, and wait 2 hours for it to update after. Then 2 more hours 5 more times.
And you don't even have the guarantee that any multiplayer this has, I'm not sure if it has it, will even work with all this PSN shit.
With Xbox you have to get off your lazy ass and put in a new CD.
Wish I had Xbox.

I personally don't care because I'm not really anticipating this game as much as I thought I would (I DO LOVE THE MUSICAL SCORE!) But, games with the whole disc swapping thing (Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, Halo 3: ODST, FFXIII, etc) are kinda annoying to me. At least with PS3 with mandatory installs, I could just switch the T.V to my DVR to watch a quick episode of Adventure time while I wait for the data to be finished, whereas with disc swapping I have to get up, open my eggsbawks, put in the next disc, walk back, and play.

Idk, I prefer installs more than multiple discs. These are my PREFRENCES. I am entitled to them.

It was sooo worth it, though. I love that game.

Anyway, the extra discs don't bother me, but I am a little surprised to see that the game is this huge.

The ps3 version has exclusive content so I was already getting that version.
Disk swapping doesn't bother me. I grew up on games in the ps1 era(So many discs) and thats not even talking about when pc games came on cds(no switching necessary but still)

I'll most likely get the PS3 copy to avoid disc swapping.

never minded disk swapping, however, three disks means three disks to potentially damage, therefore three times the chance of your game being fucked up by an accident/console eating the disk.

i think my original FF7 has a busted disk 3 :(

You forgot to mention that they said there was too much content, so they have to make it DLC, otherwise it would be 2 Blu-Rays, or 4 CDs.

If we were to install the discs on our hard drives, would we have to switch discs?

Not timed exclusive, but actually exclusive! :D

@Patrick, I'm pretty sure this game has always been multiplatform! Are you thinking of rockstar's game "Agent"? That game is a PS3 exclusive! Hope to here about it at e3!

i've always felt that the more disks you have, the more you own as i have more of a material product to enjoy. FFVII rings a bell, and i loved it back then as well. you could turn to your buddy and laugh in pride because you were a disk ahead of him. ahhhh, those were the days.

@Epic I Guess I agree with ya people complain about the Ps3 installs but I just got a ps3 about 3 days ago and I don't think it's that bad...I Guess it's worth it to get the game running smoothly without a hiccup in most cases.

Disc swapping never got on my nerves...unless it was keeping track of them....and keep swapping...

I guess I prefer installs to multiple disc as well...but no installs would be nice as well.

That's a lot of data. I prefer to install because it's less wear on the console, but my puny little 20g hard drive can't manage this. And it's not like I'm buying a new hd any time soon...

How does disc swapping even work in an open world game?

In any case, knowing the developer's quality, i'll file this under not an issue.

Sure is 1997 in here.

At least Rockstar didn't just downgrade the graphics and the sound so it would all fit on one 360 DVD... Like a lot of developers do.
