KOTOR III dreams momentarily crushed by EA photo

Ever since EA's CEO John Riccitiello's slideshow extravaganza, the Internet has been pointing to this as unmistakable proof that KOTOR III was already underway. Unfortunately, EA has been quick to squash the rumor, with the hope of Star Wars fans along with it. That's what the "official" stance is saying, of course -- and we all know how versatile they can be:

"The slide in John's presentation is titled 'Best Creative Talent'--it addresses future and past titles. "KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels."

Even though the second one was attacked as being an unfinished game, KOTOR undeniably has a solid fanbase. Forget about Halo for a second, and think about how many of you bought an Xbox just for the chance to play Bioware's RPG? Quite a few, I'd suppose. It would surprise no one if KOTOR III was announced somewhere down the line, and even fewer that EA had ambitions of turning it into an annual franchise with yearly costume updates (I kid!).

Then again, what is stopping George Lucas from seeking other talent to carry on the good name? In the land of Star Wars, the flannelled one is king. Question is...what does he want?

Yes, yes, future present past, at least we know who's developing it.

Now that they have EA's resources under their hats, Bioware can do its Mass Effects, Sonic RPG's, and oversee KOTOR 3.

My fiancee will need a shoulder to cry on, I told her the news it was being made and she danced around with glee. Maybe I should wait till after the wedding.

@Surf314

I feel her pain. KOTOR is what sold me on the Xbox, and I'm not really an RPG type of guy.

Figures. The one game they could sell to me every year with incremental upgrades (a la Madden) is the one game they're not making.

Seriously EA, milk the Star Wars whores like you milk the NFL whores. You know you want to.

Just the possibility of another KOTOR is enough for me.

I can still hope, but Id rather they release nothing rather than a half baked game like KoToR II :(

Yea I liked KOTOR I but refused to play KOTOR II after a glitch rendered my game save useless. My fiancee kept trying to convince me to go back to it, even offering to let me use one of her saves. I just couldn't handle the frustration.

I think he wants EA to stop referring to Boogie as a creative talent. Its a game, and a crap game at that.

@ DrNutt: KotOR II had a lot of good ideas, but the implementation was crap. Also the fact that half the storylines just dropped in the middle of nowhere? However, it was totally LA's fault, and not Obsidian. Unfortunately, if BioWare would make a KotOR III, then they would def. not let LA push them around like they pushed around Obsidian.

PS: Team Gizka restoration mod FTW!

@WCC: Yeah, it was a little rushed, but even with the flaws, I would gladly take the superior story-telling and dialogue of II over the first one any day. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but the second game is so much deeper (if you're into the actual dialogue and stuff).

So tripe like Madden get sequel after sequel, but genuingly good games like KoToR, Black and Skate don't?

And EA wonder why people hate them.

Who in their right mind would buy an xbox for a Knights of the Old Republic?

As long as fan mods and patches exist, consoles will never surpass gaming PCs. We got to see the end of KOTOR2.

Anyone who says otherwise is either poor or knows nothing about basic programming.

I admit, the PC versions were really buggy out of the box, but they were easily fixed.
