Korg DS-10 Plus, new musical software announced for DSi photo

The Korg DS-10 is my...well, it's my jam. Some music nerds had the bright idea of sticking a classic synthesizer on a DS cartridge for portable music making bliss. I still carry the musical creation software with me just about everywhere I go. So imagine how excited I was to hear that a new title has been announced this morning.

At a conference in Japan, AQ Interactive announced Korg DS-10 Plus, an update of last year's title that now takes advantage of the DSi's higher-tech innards. So what's different? It has about double the song-making power, with four analog synths instead of two, and now eight drum tracks instead of four. Add that to the new track count of 12, and you have some serious song tools. New programmable editing also gives it some added flexibility.

This could run on the DS, but according to Watch Impress, you won't have the horsepower to run the new analog simulator. So make sure you've got a DSi before getting this title.

As before, if you're not musically inclined, you might not get much out of this title. For those that are, Korg DS-10 Plus ships in Japan on September 17th, for about $40. If it's anything like its predecessor, it's 100% import friendly, too. I'll be picking up a copy on launch week to toy with.

Hit the jump to watch an over-the-top promotional video for the new software. The ending is hilarious.

How good is the sonund? I have a Korg Em-1, and a Korg Es-1. Can you get your stuff off the DS and put it to the hardware units?

I, too, struggled with Fruity loops...

So, can you actually take the music off of this thing or is it still stuck on the disc? I saw a YouTube thing up there, which is a start I guess, but I can't read a lick of Japanese. Otherwise, looks awesome.

Poopface, there is no "disc" to speak of.

It would be nice to be able to import/export song patterns, but something tells me it'll still function as a closed instrument with the only way to export sounds being through the headphone jack to the recording medium of your choice.

Personally, I haven't yet even put in a modicum of time with the original even though I picked it up in December :(

Sounds kickass! I think what I want the most though is more than 16 patterns to play with.

Will it finally have more than 16 parts? I start writing songs and then I've quickly run out of parts. *sigh*

Though KORG DS-10 is awesome still. Can't wait for the new one.

I'm very excited to get my hands on the new DS-10 Version. A better song mode was my number one request! If I'm not mistaking you can nog loop for example 4 x 16 steps while going crazy on the synth parameters!

If you haven't listened to any Korg DS-10 Music yet, check out my 20 track techno/electro/dubstep/etc album at http://www.archive.org/details/m3d053-cheap-dirt-by-ds10-dominator
