Konami to publish Saw game for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 photo

Variety has confirmed that Konami has picked up the rights and will be publishing the upcoming Saw title for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The title is set to ship this fall to coincide with the release of Saw VI (yes, that's a God damned "six").

It also appears Konami is looking at the series as its next survival horror franchise, alongside Silent Hill. David Daniels, director of marketing for Konami, tells Variety they the publisher is "passionate about [Saw] and wanted to find another property on par with Silent Hill." Before burning a hundred dollar bill, he mentions how much cash the Saw franchise has grossed worldwide -- $600 million.

The title is being handled by the aptly-named developer, Zombie. The image above is the first look at the Saw game; Variety has more.

Saw is clearly trying to become the modern age halloween movie franchise, but it went from some B-movie/ made for late night tv movie to high class cinema presentation to old hat in 4 movies. Do they even gauge the publics opinion on if they want another one. I question how many of those millions were spent in an effort of closure.

The first Saw movie was actually pretty good, in my opinion it was more in line with Se7en than it was tripe like Hostel. The second one was alright, but was where it broke off into real torture porn territory, after I saw part 3 I was officially done with the series. It's just not for me, so I have zero interest in this game...

Not attempting to fill the GAPING VOID left by there not being a new Eternal Darkness game on the Wii is a missed opportunity for Konami.

This game is going to suck round spherical fleshy sacks. Also who's going to develop the game?

Ergh. I'm conflicted. They could make a good game of this if they stick closer to the early films and learn their Silent Hill lessons. Or they could not.

All I have to add to this discussion is a cry of "FAIL" and one big fat economy-sized facepalm.
