Konami gives details and pricing on the Metal Gear Solid 4 photo

Konami sends us details and pricing for the Standard and Limited Editions of something called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Hmm, never heard of it.

As you might have guessed, the Standard Edition gets the standard current-gen price of $59.99. The limited edition version of MGS4 will be available only at GameStop, and will be priced at $84.99. Its packaging features special artwork by Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa. On the inside, aside from the game, there is a Blu-ray disc featuring two "making of" documentaries. The documentaries will include interviews with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots soundtrack CD will also be included.

Finally, Konami sends word of a special pre-sale program they are kicking off with select retailers. Each preorder comes with a Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD. This disc gives the back history of all of the "Snakes." And, as I'm sure you've already heard, a code on this DVD enables preorderers to download the Metal Gear Online Beta. It will be playable from April 21st to May 5th.

Got my beta key, see you online people. Getting the regular version. I'll keep my 15 bucks for something else.

@EternalDeathSlayer - you mean $25.

I love the series, and I would be very temped to pre-order a LE edition of any game I love - but I've yet to purchase a PS3 so I'm waiting until Gamestop releases an official release date for the MGS4+PS3 bundle.
I've called my local Gamestop to ask if I'll be able to get the pre-order Saga DVD with the PS3 bundle and they said it should be possible once there's they're sure on its exact release date. Getting that pre-order disc would be great since it definitely won't have the LE game with the bundle.

Here's to hoping there's at least something slightly special in the MGS4+PS3 box.

Why is the artwork SOOOOOOO ugly on the standard edition? Couldn't they at least have made it fit in with the recently released essential collection?!?!

Standard edition for me, not interested in the Limited Edition with what's in there. I'll probably be able to find the making of videos online, and download the soundtrack if I wanted it. But who knows, I've been jonesing for this game for a while now and the LE is tempting if only for the artwork on the packaging.

I do want all that extra stuff in the LE, as I'm an idiot for that kinda "bonus" swag, but it's just way more financially sound for me to nab the PS3/MGS4 bundle when it hits. It is, after all, what I've been waiting for... I have been toying with the idea of dropping five bucks on a pre-order just for the incentive DVD, then cancelling later, but I haven't committed to that plan yet...

I don't see what people like special editions. They're going to watch the DVDs ones and never watch them again. They're like DVD Extras, just a bullet-point. I don't see why someone would care about the interviews if they either really liked or hated the game. Why would I care what the producer/director thinks if I really enjoyed/hated the game?

I guess it's just a way to make more cash. At least, they're not like EA that puts extra cars in their Special Editions of Need for Speed games.

Yeah I totally hate the Tom Selleck standard edition box art. However, there is no way I am going to drop $85 for the special edition. I am sure someone will make some better looking custom cover art that I can just print out and use.

Expensive extras. Christ.

The $85 pricepoint kind of scares me, I hope it's not setting a precedent.

$10 to pre order the limited edition version. definitely worth it to me. metal gear cd and all, but its perhaps my favorite series and i'll do what i must to show support. i would fncking pay $80 for the game alone if i didn't have a choice and i would still love it. i can guarantee myself over 200+hours on guns alone, then mgo, fuck me! i'll be in heaven! i'm gonna absolute love it when its ready. #1_in_the_hood_G!!

I for one still don't forgive Kojima for MGS2. After that I no longer pre-order Metal Gear anything. I wait, read reviews and then rent or buy at my own educated risk. Getting stuck playing Raiden or something similarly retarded again for $80, no thanks.

Might grab the limited edition as it is only $25 more and the box art alone is 4.67 times cooler than the 'ol regular box.

I am still choked about the EB in town having no info on the pre-order DVD or anything :(

I'm actually really ashamed that I'm already talking myself into the Special Edition because of the box art. This is going to b my first big purchase for the PS3.

Just ordered the limited edition off of Gamestop, and I'm going to pick up my pre-order disc tomorrow through my now pointless EB Games preorder(though they don't know that :D).

I pre-ordered the Limited edition at EB Games about a month ago and I JUST got my DVD and beta code. I also went and pre-ordered a regular version of MGS4 at Gamestop and got a second DVD and beta code to send to my brother. Oh, I also picked up my two new DUALSHOCK 3 controllers. set me back a hundred dollars, but definitely worth it.
