After years of being a Metal Gear fan and months of owning it, I finally beat MGS4 today. I loved the game, but it's really brother's PS3 so I rarely get to play it.
Really thought he shot himself at the end there, and I was like "Man, that's pretty bleak." I don't want to spoil it up too much; I spent four years on the Internet spoiler-free and I'll keep it that way for others.

Damn, I would of loved to go. This is what I get for making plans for PAX Prime. Would of loved for him to sign my copy of MGS3.
I'd love to get him to sign my limited edition copy of MGS HD Collection for the 360. I still can't believe how damn big the box is.
Seriously, Kojima is one of my favorite people in gaming right now. He took a game, Metal Gear Solid, that wasn't even supposed to be a series, and he made it as amazing as it is now. Even if you don't actually LIKE the series, you have to respect that.

I honestly don't get it. The writing is so bad in that series, it's really incredible to behold. I can't believe so many people look at Kojima with such high regard.
The first Solid game was so goddamn amazing, and then the story went completely to hell. I look at it as a tragedy. Like the Star Wars prequels, Matrix 2 and 3, and Indiana Jones 4, I wish I could un-experience those Metal Gear Solid sequels.
And I feel like I'm the only one.

You've just beaten MGS4 today??!! And you've been an MGS fan for YEARS? If you really were a huge fan (which you are not, seeing as how you said your were just a fan), then you would have bought a PS3 just for MGS4 alone way back in '08. I'm trying for the platinum right now. Getting all the emblems again will be time-consuming, but I'll give up my time for MGS anytime.

I'm sorry, but what the hell is an "introspective"?!? Last time I checked it's an adjective and not a noun. Isn't this already happening? Lords of Shadows comes to mind, even if it was a small part it was at least a start, him expressing interest in Silent Hill as an IP could be the next (orgasmically awesome) step.

Agree. I liked many of the elements of 3's story but 2 was a postmodernist masturbation-fest and 4 was just in love with itself. Still, he does create some cool characters, and he does create good gameplay for the most part.

You're absolutely right. Kojima is a great "ideas guy" when it comes to settings and themes. But ask the guy to write a dialogue-driven cutscene and you end up with something that could kill a small animal if read out loud.

@tyson I think his writing is fine. Why does something suck just because you don't care for it? I'll never understand the "I don't like it so it's terrible" attitude. Different strokes for different folks.

Snow - because I think it is legitimately terrible. You beat a boss in MGS4 and then Drebin sits you down and tells you their entire backstory like he's reading a text book. It's fundamentally poor storytelling. Kojima masturbates through cutscenes.
@tyson you obviously missed my entire point. And your ability to over dramatize is incredible. There is more than 1 way to tell a story. You don't like the story telling. That's fine. But a whole hell of a lot of people do. (awaiting response about how there is a whole lot of idiots in the world)
