Kojima is a weary man. It seems that the poor
Metal Gear Solid mastermind is
sick to death of hearing about
MGS4 on the Xbox 360, and has stated that he wishes people cared more about the game itself than the hardware it's released on:
"I've been doing a lot of interviews and stage shows, and half the questions are like 'Will MGS4 be coming out on 360 or other formats?', and in the near future I hope they'll ask me about Metal Gear, about us, about our future projects, and will stop caring about the hardware ...
... But, you know, what kind of disturbs me sometimes, because a lot of people ask me about this PS3/360 question, is that it's not about the hardware - I want people to look at the game itself. Sometimes I even feel like it should be on a PC so that people don't ask me about hardware and platforms."
Despite being sick of the question, Kojima did say that he felt an Xbox 360 port of his game was "probably not possible" due to the game being optimized for the PlayStation 3. Not too sure if that's such a big barrier, but who knows? Either way, I think everybody needs to stop asking Kojima about it before he punches someone.

Also, that pic will never stop being funny to me.
I wouldn't ask him ever again, but there are some people that might.
And I'm sorry, but there are people that do not own a PS3. So expect them to ask if it's coming to the system they own...though I'm guessing the Wii-only owners have pretty much ruled out that it's coming to their system. So expect the 360 owners to ask until you give them a "yes" or "no".
Sony paid some big MONIES to keep MGS4 only on ps3.
It matters to the people who have a 360 and not a ps3.
I'm sure 360 Devs get asked all the time "When is [Game Name] going to be on PS3?"
"I want people to look at the game itself"
And how are they supposed to do that IF IT'S NOT ON THEIR HARDWARE? Duuuuuh.
See, the thing is, I can't look at the game if you don't put it on a platform where I can play it . . .
I CAN'T LOOK AT THE GAME ITSELF IF ITS NOT ON A SYSTEM I OWN!
I dunno, maybe its a translation thing. It just kinda seems like he doesn't appreciate the question on a consumer level, or is able, legally or otherwise, to answer it with that angle of empathy.
Anyway, he wishes more people would look at the game, then PORT IT.
Bawww no one is looking at my game on the "no game station 3"
I concur.
Sony didn't pay any money for MGS4 exclusivity. They've stated many times that it's not their policy to do so.
@solidgoomba:
Kojima is known to be a perfectioninst, and I think we have to take him at his word when he says that MGS4 would not be possible on the Xbox 360. Now when he says "possible" he doesn't mean technology wise. But rather, he'd have to make too many sacrifices, and the 360 port would not live up to his own vision. Frankly, if you didn't code the game, you are no in a position to determine wether Kojima's reason is BS or not.
Optimized for PS3, what a joke.
I mean, the 360 doesnt get ONE game, thats it dude, if you want to play it go buy a blu ray player and stop disturbing dad and mom when they are having sex.
*sniff* So sad *sniff*
"I wish people cared more about the game and not the platform"
What the fuck? When half of your fucking fans can't even PLAY the goddamn game how can they fucking care about it??
I've only gotten to play MGS4 once in my life and it was for about 20 minutes because I played it a friends house.
You want me to care about the game?
OK sure, HOW IS THAT GAME? CAUSE I DONT FUCKING KNOW.
I want to go to a fucking interview with this guy and just ask "So what happens in MGS4? I'll never get to play it."
FUCK YOU, KOJIMA. I love you but FUCK YOU.
2) It's only a matter of time before it's on Xbox
I see over half of these same people talking about "yeah its coming to 360 I know it..."
Sheep.
"Stop bugging me, If you don't own a PS3, spend 400 bucks so you can play my game and stop whining before I punch you in the nutsack"
Why? Well, the ps2/gcn/xbox were all essentially similar hardware configurations -- this is a huge oversimplification, but you can pretty much say the ps2 is slow, the gcn is fast, and the xbox is faster -- just downscale your stuff accordingly to go from xbox, to gcn, to ps2.
The issue with the ps3 and the 360 is that they're both very powerful -- in wildly different ways. The Xbox's graphics hardware and multi core processor give it an advantage in traditional game requirements -- they can push bigger textures, and integrate all of that and physics more smoothly. The PS3's bizarre ram configuration and utterly alien Cell processor give it some advantages too -- it has a ridiculous capacity to handle advanced shaders and complex calculations, but when it comes to video memory it's shot. So you're doing this weird juggling game with the ps3, hiding its' weaknesses in fundamental areas with the absurd amount of glitz you can cover it with if you apply it properly. Better effects, better physics, better shaders -- or more, at least.
What i'm getting at is that just 'turning the settings down' on the ps3 specific stuff will get you a 360 game that looks like an xbox 1 game. That's not because the ps3's better, or because it's worse -- it's just so different that to try and translate it is to cripple it.
Crossplatform games, before anyone chimes in, are playing to both console's weaknesses and not really either of the system's strengths -- maybe the 360's a bit, with bigger textures, that's why the 360 crossplatforms usually look just a touch better.
@ Suprore, you don't know what your talking about I've read the PS3 specs and working SPEs in detail. I'll just point out one thing you say about the PS3 to which unravels the whole point your trying to make. This "limited ram" on the video memory being "shot" is utter bullshit. First of the fantastic cell and memory of the PS3 that you mention, which btw the memory (ram) is a standard GDDR3. Which technically has far more streaming and processing power than the Xbox 360. Its merely the software application of the memory which in most companies are referring to the SPEs of the Cell and not actually the ram. Anyway back to the point the video is equivilent to the Xbox 360 not only that but the architecture is set up in such a way that the video memory can offset tasks to the SPE, in essence giving it a nearly unlimited power boost that has yet to be fully tapped.
In other words, *cough* bullshit *cough*, you don't know what your talking about.

I desperately wished that WHAT was said mattered more than WHERE they were said, but if it was true, then the we wouldn't have a war over Jerusalem.
That war isn't going to end soon, and people will continue to ask if MGS4 will be on the the 360.
I can say for myself, that I want MGS4 on the Xbox 360. And I am not saying this because I'm a fanboy and I want the ps3 to die.. no.. I'm saying this because I am a MGS fanatic, but I do not have $4-$500 for a system that I am only getting for one game. I am paying for college out of pocket and I cant afford much, but I think I would figure out some way to get 60 bucks for a MGS4 game for the 360.
The reason people bother him about MGS4 on the 360 is because a lot of people do not want a PS3, but do want MGS4. It is not about the hardware, it is about the game, which is why so many people want it on the 360.
I have an Xbox 360, but i'm not a 360 fanboy or anything like that. Actually, i hate microsoft, i hate sony, and i hate nintendo. I think they're all a bunch of condescending, money grubbing sperm siphons.
That said, I made my investment in games this generation in the 360 for many reasons and have been happy with it. The only regret i have is not being able to play MGS4.
To those people who say "just spend the 400 and buy a PS3"
NO
I'm not poor but i'm not willing to blow antoher 400$ this console generation to play 1 or 2 games. It's not worth it, and in the grand scheme of things, it shouldn't be. Are games really that important? As much as i love them, i gotta say no.
After all, Iz gotz bills to pay
Seeing as the first two games were multiplatform, i'd say that moolah is keeping it in the Sony family. The Awesome Power Of Blu-Ray (TM) obviously means that no-one else can have it, ever, not even in a form where any file is slightly compressed to fit it onto media forged by mere mankind!
You're kidding, right? You've looked at the technical specs? Clearly, you're an expert.
How many programmers or artists do you know who've worked on the platform? That unlimited power is a joke, and again, you're fundamentally failing to understand the difference between processing power and *memory*. The PS3, due to it's awkward memory configuration, gimps the hell out of how much texture date you can have on screen at once. Stream or process whatever you want, you can't hold as many megabytes of normal, specular, and diffuse maps on screen at once as the 360. As such, you have to work around it. Which goes back to my original post.
that said watch MGS4 Supersistance come to 360 next year.
This is Kojima we're talking about. I think he knows what he's doing. If it does come to the 360, it's obvious it won't play nearly as well --- Not my words. That's what Kojima was just saying. That's why it hasn't been ported yet.
Also, Detox, get the hell out of here and don't come back.
For me, it was the PS3. For others, it's the 360.
If you only buy one, will you miss out on a few exclusives that you'd like to play? Yeah. Is the same true for me? Yeah.
But I understand that, I accept that... and I dealt with it. Maybe some of you should stop crying like women, chop down that tree, build that bridge, and GET THE FUCK OVER IT...
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. After playing through MGS4, I'm convinced the 360 couldn't handle the game without some all around dumbing down and that FFXIII is definitely being dumbed down out the gate for a mulitplatform release. We're an all consoles house so I've got no horse in this race but its clear that, when people take the time and care to understand it, the ps3 is a much more powerful machine. I know there's more to a console than mere processing power but consider for a moment that each 360 is like a shitty PC optimized for games-only, probably much weaker in actual processing power than your laptop. Simultaneously the cell, programmed properly, could run circles around many high end processors.
It wouldn't take that many discs --- Compression would see to that. But the more you compress, the crappier it starts to look and feel.
Leads me to believe Kojima doesn't know the first thing about PC software or hardware.
if i'll be on that conferece i will said to you "because there's a lot of people that don't have ps3 dumbass sucker!"
anyways... i've played MGS4 and ... for play shooters i prefer gears of war... what tactical spionage action X_x i never think that in a MGS game i can run in the middle of an street shooting anyting that moves... for me the worst MGS EVAR!
