Every single entry in the Metal Gear Solid series (barring the first) has been Hideo Kojima's "last" MGS. He claims he'll step away from the series every time but it seems like a compulsion for him -- like kleptomania, only with longer cutscenes.
It really gives the impression that he can't help himself, especially since he's already dreamed up three concepts for Metal Gear Solid 5 but needs his team to help him not make them. He's hoping that someone in Kojima Productions will have a better idea than him so he doesn't have to work on MGS5.
I have three concepts for MGS5 already. What would be ideal for me with MGS5, though, is that we don't do those. If the team picks one of those concepts, I have to get involved again, which I don't want to do. There are already so many good ideas from the staff, so if we select one of those, that would be really good. At that point I could really rely on them and take the step back to be the producer, which is the ideal situation, I think.
Oh Kojima-San, you are absolutely insane.
While Hideo is like a messiah of gaming to me, I wouldn't mind him taking a step back from Metal Gear. I'd like to see him have the time to create something brand new. Kojima notes that the MGS4 team is returning from their vacation, so the next Metal Gear will likely be decided soon. Somehow, I can't help but feel that Kojima will be as involved as ever.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Because I haven't had a chance to make one.
"he'll just come in every once in a while and check out how the game's developement is going."
For me, he won't be able to do this. He'll pop in casually, next thing you know it's 3 days later and the man has gone nuts and re-done the whole thing. If he lets go, he need to reeeelly let go.
I agree with Jim (again!). I'd like to see him bring a new IP to the table... Less long cutscenes though, they only were allowed to fly because we really knew the characters already in MGS4.
Remember Snatcher? Do something with that kaythanksbye.
I'll make it.
MAKE IT HAPPEN KOJIMA!!!
