Hideo Kojima sure has been talking up a storm lately. In this interview, Kojima lets out a lot of information similar to the stuff he shared with a panel of writers at a Q&A session yesterday, at which our very own Maxwell Roahrig was in attendance. However, in the first two minutes, Kojima talks about the time they "had to start planning for MGS5," which led up to the decision to start the Rising project.
During that period, Kojima says he came up with several ideas for the story of MGS5. He only talks about one of them, which featured The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy. This idea was thrown around back in 2008, but it still doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that this is a thing that could happen. Anyway, the rest of the interview is all about the history and evolution of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It's full of worthwhile insight from various developers at Kojima Productions and Platinum Games, so definitely give it a watch.
Oh man, if there's one game series that could get me interested in WWII again it's MGS. After Snake Eater, I'm all for a second prologue-type MGS game.
"Once Metal Gear Solid 4 had been wrapped up, Kojima had begun several drafting plans for another Metal Gear game in 2008. One of these was a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy."
wow O_____________________O
can you imagine playing The Boss in HD!!!!!!!!!!
damn should have gone with that Kojima.
though i rather have a Remake of the first two MG MSX games and a sequel to Peace Walker(basically how he created outer heaven and recruited people like Wolf and such)
still the MGS series as a whole has alot of stories that can tell.
so i rather have kojima make ZOE3 and Policenauts/Snatcher sequel than a new MGS(as much as i loooooove the series sooo much)
seriously MGS4 is already done as well as Peace Walker.
I hate to be that guy, but it was a Q&A panel with a bunch of other writers. If it were an actual interview with Kojima, I would've pooped all the shit.
I fixed that first paragraph for you. Now can someone please exert a bit of editorial control around here and bring the level of writing up to at least a third grade level? It's really gotten pathetic.

Whilst I would love a Metal Gear which explores more about the character who started the chain of events that would become the MGS series I don't know if it is necessary.
Less is more. She has enough mystic but enough information to understand her character. What exactly is it going to bring in terms of revelations anyway?
Spoilers ahead for MGS3.
We already know she fell in love with The Sorrow
We already know of her successes in WWII
We already know she fell pregnant on the battlefield
We already know the baby is Ocelot
We already know she is a daughter of the Philosiphers
Sure there could be other things but are they really going to be as groundbreaking as Snake Eaters story? Maybe I'm just being cynical in thinking we don't need everything explored or answered as it gets us nowhere.
"Maybe I'm just being cynical in thinking we don't need everything explored or answered as it gets us nowhere."
No you do have a point, and I know what you mean about the "mystic" feeling, and I'm sure we wouldn't find out anything to wet ourselves about.
That being said it would be pretty cool if instead of focusing on all that you stated, they would focus on The boss and the cobra unit, and maybe even multiple character usage (think about it), in snake eater you could feel there was a history and bond between her and the cobra unit, but never was it explored.
Also personally I don't want there to be something after metal gear solid 4 (story wise), a new Metal gear (besides rising) is pretty much guaranteed on the way, so if Kojima wants to work on a metal gear game I would rather it be this, or how PrinceHeir said a remake of the originals.
I love how when Kojima explains the scene where raiden throws the Ray he starts laughing saying "this is Platinum Games style", as if he knows it's crap :S
Playing as the Boss could be pretty cool.
But personally I want Snakes story to be completely done.
I know MGS4 was a pretty good closing point, but personally I still need a little more closure. Even if it means he dies.
I'm super excited for this. I love both studios and I think the collaboration will will continue to make the game stronger. When a game is made by a single studio the game makers may not be so critical about things they may not like about the game. Having a second opinion and a desire to live up to the others expectations will be great for the game, hopefully.
No not my penis why would you even go there what is wrong with you get your mind out of the gutter!
I wouldn’t want a game about The Boss, it’d ruin her mystique. Besides, she was nine months pregnant during Normandy, if anyone could pull that off its Kojima but....ehhhh.
See, a game like that I think should also fall outside of the "MGS" series, since it would have nothing to do with Snake (or even Big Boss), or a Metal Gear project whatsoever. It could still be canonical and stuff, but just not "MGS." Also, I love how The Boss is like technically kind of an old lady in MGS3 but still moves around and fights like an 18 year old. I guess it's all those vacuum-tube-nanobots.
i like how the main cast of snake eater pretty much trumps the casts of canonically later MGS games. Of course solid snake himself is still the best but idk MGS3 had the best overall story.
Really cool interview series here. I think it highlights why large studios are not really designed to innovate. In order to innovate, you need to try a ton of different things and see what sticks. You can't be tied down to ideas, you can't be afraid to throw things away completely. But when you have a whole team of artists on payroll, you don't want to just have them twiddling their thumbs. So you have them make art for your prototypes...but then suddenly you're reluctant to throw away ideas that don't actually work because you've invested so much art and effort into them already, so you just slog on trying to work around the problems. Eventually, you either release a crappy game or you cancel the project, resulting in even more wasted time and effort. It's a long term vs. short term view of things, and large studios tend to make the short-term cost of throwing away ideas far greater than they should be.

I say we write letters to Kojima stating that it's an excellent idea.
Ah, my apologies for the error. Thanks for the catch! <3

Well that explains the cheesy cringe worthy trailer... fuckin retards
I wana say that I wish this game died when it did but at the same time i kinda hope the that this same necromancy will occur with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
Time for you to stop posting
THAT'S WHAT I'M FUCKING TALKING ABOUT!
Hurry up and get this revengenence shit out of the way so Kojima can listen to my ideas!
About MGS5: Kojima making a Plot with Nazis in it? Just imaging how crazy that could get! Color me excited.
I want to see the Metal Gear version of WW2
