I knew there was something for the 25th Anniversary and I didn't think Rising was exactly it, but what's left for Solid Snake to do after MGS4? Pretty much every plot thread was neatly tied up and Snake maybe has a few months left to live.
Plus he quit smoking and many critical cast members are dead. I guess if Raiden or someone else took over I could see a new saga happening, but I kind of liked the idea of just exploring a metaverse and Solid Snake having MGS4 as his send-off.
BRAND NEW STORY, PERHAPS? Actually, I kind of wondered if Kojima would do a pre-prequel, centering on The Boss. I always thought it would be really interesting to see a Metal Gear game with a serious female protagonist. And of course there's Meryl, though I think a story centered around The Boss would be far more compelling.

4 out of 10 confirmed.
Anyhoo, hasn't this dead horse been beaten into dust already? 4 was a nice ending...
What a shame
@ CaptainHowdy
I wonder if it'll come to the Wii U.
probably a question about what would MGS5 be and inside the article Kojima will probably say he might do something else.

also would rather have a remake of Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 MSX :P
imagine Big Boss vs Solid Snake or Frank Eager vs Solid Snake in HD!!!!!!!
Complete with a 2 hour cutscene featuring Old Snake bitching about kids on his lawn, Medicare, and talking about how things used to be 'in his day' while waiting for the folks at the nursing home to bring him his mashed potatoes.
Really, what's left to explore with Snake? At the end of 4 he's pretty much done with fighting and with life. It concluded the story. So that would lead me to believe 5 is another prequel, if anything. Or maybe shifts the perspective to another character like 2 sort of did.
Speaking of prequels, I still need to play 3. Which I'll do whenever I get the money for the HD collection. Which...will probably be after Christmas at this rate.
Personally, I wish they (as in Kojima and his producers) would just make a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. That way they can continue to give us quality tactical espionage action, but without messing with Metal Gear's story.
........I wasn’t drinking any coffee.
The only way I can imagine this working is if it’s a remake of the original Metal Gear 1 (and 2?), there is literally no other point in the timeline where you could fit in a meaningful game that matters to the overall story. Plus I don’t think most people really know what goes on in those games and I doubt any of it makes sense anymore in conjunction with the rest of the story.
I love to see Kojima move on just to see what else he has in him, but then, it’s not like this game could possibly be bad.
I seriously hope he doesn't continue the saga of Old Snake. Not after it all ended so goddamn beautifully.
More spinoffs are inevitable, or remakes, but def no MGS5
Nowhere in that link is such a thing confirmed.
A beloved series that people understandably want more of? Knowing that Kojima talks about "Metal Gear Solid 5" in an interview is not an announcement for.
In other words, the timeframe that the three clones were made has always been told by a character or flashback. I want to play that era, and as Raiden when he was a child soldier called Jack the Ripper
looking forward to new art by Mr. Shinkawa as well that guys style is freaking awesome!
seriously thought playing as Grey Fox would be awesome.
I wonder that too. That new engine he made is for multiplatforms.
I want to say he do some exclusive game for the Wii U, but he wants multiplatform games for now on.
