There's no denying that Koei Tecmo's Fist of the North Star/Dynasty Warriors mash up has already turned heads. The popular Manga is known to millions of people, far more than the ancient Chinese history upon which Dynasty Warriors is based. Armed with this supremely huge license, the Japanese publisher believes that the game will generate mad bank.
"Only in Japan, the game should sell a million copies," boasts company boss Kenji Matsubara. So far, the game has not been confirmed for an international release, and Koei isn't telling me anything yet, but given the worldwide popularity of the Manga, there's no way this game is staying in Japan.
I really hope it works out for them. As a long time Koei supporter, it's great to see the company get its hands on something more mainstream, and given the visual quality of the screens and video released thus far, I'd say that the company is putting all its effort into this one. Koei is capable of putting out awesome things when it tries (Gitaroo Man, Kessen, even Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce was terrific in theory) when it does its best, so here's hoping they take this ball and run with it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
and now I'm going to go explode people with my fingers.
Didn't a chap from EA recently say that they were not going to launch Brutal Legend, and even Dead Space in japan, because of lame excuses about dismemberment, gore and such.
Well, hey, Fist of the North Star is all about that kind of thing. There seems to be some kind of double standards going.
Back on Fist, it will sell, especially if it stick close to the manga. Can't wait to play as Rei, slicing foes up with the power of geometry. It think will be huge, but TK really have to sell it to gamer who might miss it.
I want to see the Fist of the North Star animated movie packaged with the game, or better yet a volume of the manga, so people know where this is coming from. If you guys can push the game on this kind of front, it may do better. I want you guys to really sell this game, so show us how cool it is.
Dear KT, take a hint from Brutal Legend. Small bits of inventive promotion like interviews etc, also give us a reason to buy into a game. Get some interviews with Tetsuo Hara and Buronson online, and tell us more about the series, show us some art etc. It all does its part.
I actually think this will sell slightly more just based on the approach they are taking with it. but instant hit I'm not too sure of yet....
@Crimsondramon
you beat to it.:)
Hokuto No Ken is different, as its more of an adult 'gekiga' property, that's very graphic and full of Mad Max style machismo, being a child of the 80's and all. Plenty of crazy goings on within, so stay away if you have a weak heart.
@Toiletduck
God Hand was also missed by many because of lack of advertising, and timing in the PS2s life cycle. Once again, its all about active promotion of your game. Get creative and it will pay off.
I agree Springsteen, beyond the cool action, the videos don't inspire me much after countless DW games. This game needs some other USP elements to make it spicy special.
Koei, what makes this any different from previous DW games? I applaud you guys getting the Fist license, but to simply settle for DW in FotNS clothing, would not be cool enough. I really hope I'm wrong, as I want this game to be as awesome as possible. Feel free to come and chat with us on Dtoid, and discuss more about the game.
AYAAAAAAAA
@sparkthatbled Technically I don't think anyone on this side of the hemisphere ever seen that manga. Now the TV series, oh ya, that was the shit.
