Before the Nintendo Wii launched, Koei announced an exclusive title for the system called Samurai Warriors Wave. An announcement was almost all that was made before the game seemingly disappeared off the face of our world with nary a further mention. However, when I spoke to Koei a short while ago, I'd heard that Samurai Warriors for the Wii was far from dead. Rebranded as Samurai Warriors Katana, this first person sword slasher has thrown out a brand new trailer showing off its waggle-based gameplay.

I was very excited once I knew news of this was coming and awaited the trailer eagerly. That said, looking at it now is ... not impressive. Perhaps this is an early build, but the shocking PS2 visuals and the "House of the Dead with a sword" style gameplay isn't quite what I was hoping for. It pains me to say it, but Samurai Warriors Katana doesn't look like something I want, if this one trailer is any indication.

Depending on how it actually ends up playing could be fun..I guess..at least it seems like they've mixed in more then just waving the wiimote around..that's a plus right?

Looks awesome to me. I'm actually suprised that graphics don't look worse. Last time I saw this game, it looked like a PS1 game. First year Wii games looking like GC games have sold well, and as long as that continues to be true, I can expect more Wii games that look like GC games. So far, I don't care.

And in terms of bosses, that arrow attacks, and amount of enemies on screen, I'm pleasantly suprised. This game may actually be great.

As Dragon Quest Swords sales in Japan show, people (in Japan)want this sort of game, and don't ming the GC visuals.

Doesn't look great, but looks like a nice little arcade game, if I saw this in the arcades i would definitely give it a go.

I kind of like that the Wii is bringing back no nonsense gaming, games that you can just pick up and play, hopefully more indie developers will pick up on this vibe.

In total agreement with Tron Knotts. It's a new take on the same old formula, and as one who loves House of the Dead, I cannot wait.

I hope this just isn't the New Coke of the Warriors series.

I'm going with Sterling on this one, I'm fucking sick of developers taking the easy road out on Wii. We've seen Mario Galaxy. We know the Wii can do MUCH better. Get off your lazy asses developers and stop taking the Wii's fun over graphics ideology as an excuse to short change us and save yourself a few dimes.

P.S. you're lazy

I remember playing an arcade game that was "house of the dead with a sword."

It was awesome. And really hard...

Lol, you actually get a gun in it too XD.

It seems like they have a variety of gameplay mechanics going on other than just slashing stuff, so it could be fun.

Wonder at the depths of my disinterest in this title.
