Knights of the Old Republic MMO set for a 2010 release? photo

While we’ve already heard about the upcoming Knights of the Old Republic MMO – both from the leaked script and angry ex-employees – there’s been no word on a possible release date. Until now, that is.

Speaking to investors at a recent stock conference, EA CEO John Riccitello let slip mention of the upcoming MMO that they might be co-publishing with LucasArts.

"It's giving us strong new entries in online. For example, we're funding the MMO in Austin, which is helping us a lot."

As TotalVideoGames points out, the only EA-owned studio in that area is BioWare’s MMORPG satellite studio. BioWare is seen as the most likely candidate to be developing the game. Coincidence? Maybe, but it still seems somewhat likely. At least EA shouldn’t feel the need to include any ridiculously lame copy protection, since it’s an MMO.

[Thanks Jonathan!]

But... but... I want KOTOR 3, not a MMO. :(

I've never, ever played an MMO. I'm with Chocobo on this one. Where the hell is KOTOR 3!?

My sentiments exactly, PappaDukes. If I don't get some more HK-47 soon, I'm gonna scream.

Remember, folks, there's rumored to be both KOTOR 3 and this MMO in development. You'll probably get both, so just relax.

I loved the first one, Not so much the second. Not really looking forward to the third. And MMO sound nice though.

i hate the idea of having to team up with douchebags online to play the game, but if the tradeoff is a kotor that never ends, count me in!

The Neverending KOTOR Story featuring a giant furry flying Hutt.

This reminded me I have to finish KOTOR II. My original Xbox died and I haven't started it yet on the 360.

MMORPGS are killing PC gaming. Developers just aren't making good single-player RPGs any more...

LIIIIIIIIES.

I mean seriously, youl'd be kicking all the awesome plot elements out if it was an MMO =<.

DaedHead8:

He was talking about PC games. Lost Odyssey is a 360 game...

Also, I bought KOTORII as a budget title, but never got out of the first little area place. I don't think I want to finish it, after hearing about how horribly broken it gets at the end. If KOTOR3 ever comes out, I might give it a shot, but I'm not investing 20+ hours in KOTORII only to have it turn to shit for the last 5 hours and not give me a proper ending.

THESE GUYS might finish their project one day. And then I will play it.

I'll show you how to recreate the ending. Stare blankly at the tv, set down your controller, and say "What the fuck sort of ending is that? What about the previous plot points? What the hell sort of last boss was that?"

I'm down. I'm a huge KOTOR fan (both I & the horribly flawed II) so I'd totally kill for some MMO action / griefing.

One thing I'm desperate to see for KOTOR III is the pre-Jedi stages being way more in depth and vastly more interesting so I stop thinking, "Jesus my characters sucks... where's my lightsaber?"

I'm pretty sure they could verify your account every 3 minutes on an mmo too, just to make sure you don't have 2 instances of yourself on your account at the same time, thereby bogging down the authentication servers and making it so no one can log in, ever. EA will fuck it up, somehow.

DO WANT though, no matter how much EA sucks.

I smell failure. Does no one remember how hard Galaxies failed? They had to THROW free Jedi Knight status at people to even keep them playing.
