Quantcast

Atlus' Aram Jabbari has a post over at the PlayStation Blog that announces Knights in the Nightmare for the PSP for October 19th. The title will be in stores and on PSN the same day. Nice.

This gameplay trailer lays it all out for you. It shows some fancy-ass new cutscenes too. Those with good memories will remember that we reviewed this game as a DS title this time last year. I'm really interested to hear the opinions of those that played the original when they compare it to the shiny, bigger-screened, analog controlling port.

I welcome this bullet hell-ish strategy role-playing...thingy. Will those of you that got down with the original try the PSP version out?

So I guess all the Sting/Atlus games have come to PSP now... I've heard good things about Knights in the Nightmare, and Yggdra Union was good, so why not? I don't have a PSP, but it sounds cool.

I preordered the DS one and played it a little more halfway...I think?

It's good, but not sure if I'd buy it twice. I still need to beat the DS one, clearly hahaha.

I can't make out what's going on, is it turn-based or what?

AriesWarlock - I don't blame you, there is absolutely no other game like Knights in the Nightmare. It's in real-time and you control that white wisp, which you use to make your dudes attack the enemy dudes, basically.

Part of the fun is using the stylus to daringly avoid attacks in a pinpoint fashion (@Aries): it's part shoot 'em up, part what corna described.

I think a lot of that will be lost in translation when it comes to a PSP analog nub - a bad nub at that.

I borrowed my friends copy for a couple of days, and while it took a good long while to get used to, I absolutely loved it. But then he decided he wanted to sell it and I couldn't afford to buy it from him.

Long story short, I have no idea how this is gonna translate to no stylus control. Guess that's why it took a year to port. That's a good sign.

This game does everything in it's power to alienate the average gamer.

I went through about an hour of tutorial videos (yes, just videos) before I felt I was ready to play the game. Unfortunately I was still fumbling around in a chaotic mess for another hour or so before I actually felt I had ANY grasp on what I was doing.

There are about 50 good combat ideas in this game. The problem is that they're all on the screen and require management by the player AT ALL TIMES.

Couple that with the fact that they try to fit it all on a portable screen and you've got an unholy mess of game that requires you to trudge through hours worth of crap and a novel's worth of menus in order to accomplish the slightest task.

Oh, and the story is COMPLETE shit. It's everything you've ever hated about convoluted JRPG stories and then some.

Sorry for the venting, but I've never played a game that tried so hard to make me hate it before. And the sad thing is, most of the systems in the game are actually pretty neat and they sound like they could be a lot of fun if I didn't have to worry about a dozen other things each and every second.

I hope someone takes some of the ideas in this game and makes something better out of it.

Still need to play the DS version but Dragon Quest is just so good. Still love the art style in this game and the gameplay is as crazy as it appears in this trailer. I'm interested to see how not having a stylus will translate to the PSP

I still don't know why on Earth they got it in their heads to take a game made for touch screen controls and put it on a handheld with no touch screen.

This game lives and dies on 1:1 touch controls. Analog does not cut it.

No reason to buy it again. Only additions are anime OP which is lackluster and a library of conversations. Not enough to double dip and I highly doubt gameplay will be better it can only be worse.
