Knight's Contract is Namco's 'brutal' action game photo

Namco Bandai has a "brutal action game" in the works, as recently revealed by Japanese propaganda pamphlet Famitsu

Details on the new game as scarce thus far. We know there are at least two playable characters -- Heinrich, a knight with a big scythe who has an unfortunate case of immortality, and the witch Gretchen, who has an unfortunate case of fighting intense battles with no armor on.

Knight's Contract is a ways off with its 2011 release window, but it seems like this is gearing up for a Western release as well as a Japanese one. Namco Bandai has promised that the game will provide "cruel and heroic" action, which is the best kind of action.

Sounds like my kind of game in spirit. Hopefully we see it in practice soon.

cruel and heroic? As in cruel villains and heroic protagonists? Or cruel protagonists and heroic villains?

Where my Splatterhouse at?

So Splatterhouse doesn't count as a "brutal" action game with "cruel and heroic" action, Namco?

At this point, Namco needs a game that will actually sell.

I loved the wording of this article.

But really, how can something be simultaneously "cruel" and "heroic"?

@Electrium
The only way to save the world is to decapitate your 5 year old first born. No one else has the balls to do it but you. To do so would be cruel but to save the world when no one else has the guts would be heroic.

@ Hecatonchira

Soul Calibur 5 please, I'll gladly shill out 60 bucks plus tax for a new one (not like that crappy PSP port or Wii action game)

Hell, I'd give them even more for the special edition, knowing full well it'd probably be full of crap I don't need.

@Electrium: read Berserk for reference, you'll get the idea and surely won't be disappointed.

Wow, an immortal knight and a saucy witch... how original. Still, I'm a sucker for fantasy tropes, so... yeah, let's hope this game delivers the goods.
