We got a little taste of Namco Bandai's upcoming brutal action game, Knight's Contract, yesterday and were hoping to see it in action soon. Namco doesn't seem to want to waste any time as they've already released the first official trailer and the official Knight's Contract web site is now live.
Knight's Contract is looking like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry and any of the other numerous types of brutal action games out there, not that there's anything wrong with that. There's also a countdown on the official web site that ends the week of E3 2010. Probably just a HUGE COINCIDENCE AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH E3 AT ALL.
Probably.
First Look: Knights Contract [Andriasang]
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I don't bastardize your stories and myths, please stop bastardizing mine.
...Demon's Souls is OK, though.

yeah because the western hemisphere has never bastardized anything from the east
coughcough star wars the magnificent seven coughcough
That's completely different because I happen to be a member of the offending race in your example . . . rendering the example moot, and said offending party exonerated.
See how that works?
No more 'wanna be Western' games
Dictating what is acceptable plagirism based race is just too stupid for words.
hopefully they wont screw up single player experience with a crappy AI!
Despite this what confuses me more is that we knew nothing of this game previously, and NB wan't to brag about buying the Power Rangers license (I'll be very surprised if that goes anywhere, beyond a Wii centric version of a game).
NB needs to do more to sell their unique titles, with new IP like this at the forefront, and not the endless trivial crap of Gundam games. I hope they can wave the flag for Knights Contract and Majin a lot at E3.
As for japan's treatment of western like influences, ecause many of them never leave the country and experience other cultures more, they remain sometimes oblivious to,or have a jaded view of other nations, time periods etc, and can fill in gaps by making stuff up, or bending stuff to their will. Western examples tend to be more worldly aware and fact based.
I'm sorry cowboy ttop but have you seen any period piece of Hollywood trash? Us in the west are as guilty of taking mythological and factual events and twisting them to incomprehensible and grossly inaccurate cluster fucks.
Also, can't we all get along? What Namco should do is bastardize African cultures!
"I don't bastardize your stories and myths, please stop bastardizing mine."
Yours? What, you're from Transylvania?
Or a sequel, they have a lot of material (from the manga) to make a few games.
You speak about Hollywood as an example, and indeed it is a bad one. However, when I posted that post I was talking about games and the games industry alone, not hollywood. Stay on target, sir. Game developers are less like the stupid, disrespectful hollywood studios to mess with things, though God of War and Dante's Inferno might make you think otherwise (however, those are western tales and myths.
Good examples in western games with eastern styles: Shogun Total War, Jade Empire. If you can think of more add them.
Overall, you won't find many western games that try to do what the likes of Sword of Berserk etc (based on the manga) try to do. Japanese devs carve their own road in this regard, that can't be matched by western devs, and have a rich pool of home grown influences (anime, manga etc) to draw from. Western devs are more likely to draw from other sources, beside eastern ones, mythological or otherwise. (there's a reason why GoW and DI are the only western challengers to DMC etc)
Bad examples of western devs trying eastern styles: Septera Core, Sudeki, X Blades, but to name a few.
Got the Viking vibe too. Mostly because the main character is so hulking. I effing LOVED Viking. When we gonna get a Viking sequel? I know, I know: never.
Game should always be fun, if those in the east want to take our myths and jazz them up it's fine by me. I'm sure they won't be selling this game as a factual account of medievil Britain and it's slighly flattering they take out myths and put their own spin on it.
Stupid protagonist with ridiculous armor fighting huge enemies ?
Looks like early image comics to me.
@Francisco Fernandez Garrido
I thought of Berserk as well when it first started up and I WANT that for my Dreamcast, I've never played it :(
"yeah because the western hemisphere has never bastardized anything from the east

These are not bastardizations. These are simply movies that drew inspiration from eastern cinema. The tradeoff between american westerns and japanese samurai films led to some of the best films produced in either hemisphere.
A bastardization would be, say, The Last Samurai.
...In which Tom WhiteMan Cruise becomes a samurai. HA HA HA.
anything else to say?
