Kitase confirms Final Fantasy XIII DLC photo

Back in December, Square Enix hinted that downloadable content was being considered for Final Fantasy XIII. Now, a new quote from producer Yoshinori Kitase has all but confirmed the inevitability of extra content for the huge RPG sequel.

"At first we had plans to release the game simultaneously worldwide," Kitase tells Official PlayStation Magazine. "So we had the intention to deliver identical version between the regions. When we noticed that we wouldn’t make it, we decided to release the game as fast as possible in the west after its release in Japan. We initially had doubts to add extra content to the western version but then it would have taken the international version more months of delay. We did prepare DLC but it will arrive a little later in the west."

This is the first solid mention of DLC since December's hint, which would indicate that DLC is pretty much a given now. As to what the DLC will actually be, who could guess? Why not give a try yourself, and let us know what kind of content you'd like to see?

If it's just more monster hunts, fuck it. Hopefully it'll be something completely different but I won't hold my breathe.

give me:

a theatre mode ( the cutscenes are so stunning but I don't want to have to replay the game again or make trillion saves just to see that one amazing cutscene )

The ability to revisit the earlier places in the game (scratch that. just let me revisit Palumpolom and the Sanctum Starfleet)

More Cie'th missions

More places to visit on Gran Pulse

give me all that for free

then make the international version with the original game + the content I mentioned, then bundle it with all the content you cut out on a 2nd blu-ray disc if you must. Or hell, just use a dual-layered one

Let's hope the DLC won't just be FFXIII-2.
FFX-2 was bad enough. Lol.

i can see this failing, just as the main game failed to sell copies in jap, just imagine how DLCs will affect the story, i simply don't see the point of this, what are they gonna add? more weapons/spells/stuff etc. that's ok, but now, how you put them inside the Story that is already completed and told? god, FFXIII is seriusly a joke for me now, i don't wanna see any other FF product from SE, i give up

@dip - First off, you're aptly named. Second, you're also not worth my time. I am a long-time fan of the series and I expect JRPGs to be stand-alone experiences. That's all the reason I need not to support this.

Theres no way you're a long-time fan, and are now suddenly NOT gonna get the game because of DLC being announced, despite the fact of the full 40-60 hour game length

If you're a long-time fan of Final Fantasy then you either have really poor taste or you've been lying to yourself for years upon years.

Anyway just buy the stupid DLC and enjoy it and shut up. I realize that Final Fantasy could never survive if it wasn't so stagnant but this isn't a big change.

@hahadumb

Thank you, that was just what I neeeded to be slapped out of liking a series, some random guy basically saying 'shitsux and you suck'. There are much more stagnant series out there with fewer iterations. And 'stagnant' is not mutually exclusive with 'good'.

@The Silent Protagonist

DLC isn't (or, shouldn't be, in a perfect world) content that was shaved off a complete game in order for companies to nickle and dime you for some extra cash. You aren't buying a 3-wheeled card for full price, but can't drive it until you pay extra for the 4th wheel later, you're getting a full 4-wheeled car, with the option to add in an HD radio and 5-disc changer stereo somewhere down the line. DLC is not inherently bad, get off your high horse.

@Xzyliac

YouRube's HD is nice, but no way a stretched, compressed 720p video on a 22" monitor can substitute for a 1080p video on a 42" TV.

@TheDirtyHobo - Sidequests, optional bosses are standard in RPGs from every prior generation, why should I accept less now? There is no high horse to get off of.

Might get this, I have no problem with DLC, but Im not one for getting it as soon as its out anyway. I only reecently got the Mass Effect stuff bcause I fancied something a bit different on another playthrough.

So long as its not just Armour and stuff though, that aways sucks.

@TheDirtyHobo - They could release a collectors collectors edition with a bonus disc of JUST the cutscenes, like the Metal Gear Solid : Snake Eater one that came with the Extreme DVD Collection.

Probably just a lot of the content that was cut out of FF13, because of the 360, and Microsoft's deal, and their limitations, I was never a fan of RPG'S but the only one I seem to be wanting is FF13 versus. And they should of just put everything in the game that they wanted, thats why I respect the Gran Turismo creator, for making a game complete, the way he wants before it launches.

You know.....when S - E were originally asked about the possibility of DLC a few months before the game was released they said "No, FF XIII will be a complete game, there will be no need for DLC.".

Guess they changed their minds?
