A new trailer for the incredibly good looking Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has arrived, and it deals with destiny. More explicitly, it deals with the player's destiny and how it can be shaped during the course of the game.
Using special cards, players can shape their own future, as well as determine what kind of hero they want to be. Reckoning aims to be incredibly flexible with its range of skills and powers -- even allowing players to change their mind if they want to turn a melee-based warrior into a teleporting sorcerer. I love games that let you do that!
Reckoning is out on February 7, 2012 and I am super stoked for it. It looks better every time I see it, and I have a feeling it's going to be the first big surprise of the new year.
Oh man, this game looks more awesome with every new dev diary. Love the art style, combat looks really fun, and I have mad respect for the team for letting us change our playstyle. Nothing worse than having to struggle late in the later stages of the game because you made certain decisions right at the beginning.
The art style looks pleasing. I might look into it, but I wonder how the controls are for a game like this. Anyone here have an idea how the controls feel?
@salamagogo... no snobbery intended.. just personal preference. Working with a mouse gives me back issues - I'm even restricting my general computer time now and using my iPad more often.
It looks a lot like a single-player World of Warcraft. Not that such a game would be bad, I basically played WoW either alone or with my best friend, outside of 20- or 40-person raids. I'm a grinder at heart, and I loved killing for faction reputation and rewards. The combat looked a lot more hack-and-slash than the complexity of WoW, but such is what you get with a console game.
I'm not convinced yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.
@Elsa
There is likely something wrong with your set-up, which is causing incorrect posture. When I first got into computer games, I ruined my wrists by using a children's desk. I would play Daggerfall until my fingers were numb and the pain left me nauseous. You should check and see if you need a new chair, a new desk, or perhaps both.
@pokota.. I've always had mouse issues, even when I used to work and had an adjustable keyboard, and high quality adjustable chair. At home it likely is my chair but I'm damned if I'll spend the money to get a decent one - I have my consoles for gaming and the iPad for reading the internet. My home set up isn't the best, but I mostly just use it for writing. :(
The graphics are lovely, but at the recent playtest I did for it the controls were a bit wonky and unresponsive. The main character also doesn't have voice acting and only has the sole dialogue circle, so I hope they fix that before the release.
