King of All Cosmos gets a Gamertag: Beautiful Katamari a 360 exclusive photo

Newsweek's Level Up videogame blog is reporting that Namco Bandai's next-gen rolling-s**t-up simulator, Beautiful Katamari, will be coming exclusively to the Xbox 360. When the game was originally revealed, the title was set to find a home on Sony's console as well, but it seems weak hardware sales and some clever negotiating nipped that one in the bud.

Level Up's N'Gai Croal points out that while a niche title like Beautiful Katamari isn't going to make or break Sony's console, moves like this are quite telling.

"It demonstrates the impact that the continued weak PS3 sales are having on the strength of the platform," Croal writes, adding the fact that Microsoft's strong push towards courting Japanese publishers is finally paying off.

And it only took them six years!

Interesting...I'm guessing it will be a timed exclusive, though

It's wrong to laugh at "people"s misfortune but, sony its just too funny.
I'd be willing to bet a kidney we see Katamari on Wii and/or DS by end of next year though.

It's not exclusive. It's only a RUMOR. In fact, they Namco already released a press statement saying it was coming out for BOTH PS3 and 360.

It's still in the systems at Blockbuster for release on teh 360 and the PS3 in October, the Wii in November.

I'm still guessing this might happen.

If Namco wants to sell any copies of this game at all in Japan, it has to come out for the Wii.

One report saying that it's moved to the 360 alone is not very convincing.

Also, Nintendork, Namco was working on a DS version awhile ago, y'know, until it got cancelled.

While this is nice n stuff, this title needs to be priced at $40 or $50. At $60 its bit steep for what it is. After all it was released for a cheaper price on PS2 and PSP.

Not only do I trust N'Gai Croal's journalistic integrity (as in, I have no doubt he has followed up with the appropriate people on this one), but I've heard on my own that this is also the case.

So you know ... yeah.

I think Namco has said that they;ll release it for $40, in typical Katamari cheapness fashion, Ob.

How 'big' is the Katamari series in Japan? It seems to me like a game that would do better in Japan than it would in the west and thus odd Namco would choose to publish it on the 360 exclusively, even if Microsoft are throwing huge wads of cash at them. (Please note that due to a crippling lack of a PS2 during my student years I have never actually played a Katamri game so my assessment could be way wrong.)

Well considering the fact that even though 360 hardware sales are below PS3's in Japan, but 360 game sales are HIGHER than PS3 game sales, I say 360 is the better choice for Japan if they go exclusive.

Hmm. I'm all for the Xbox Live features, and I'm going to get the game no matter what, but I was kinda leaning toward the PS3 version simply because the analog sticks on the SIXAXIS are symmetrical.

Does the idea of playing Katamari on a lopsided (though comfy) controller worry anyone else?

Am I just OCD?

I loved the first two Katamri games, and didn't mind the PSP title, and I must say, I am not caring about this game at all anymore.

Why? I watched these videos. And the game looks exactly like the other ones. Sure the graphics look a little better, but other than that, it is a port. I already own this game, no need to buy it again.

Link to three vids vids of the game during interview with the games producer
