Between stuff like this, me3, and Steel batalion down the line, they're finally convincing me a Kinect could be worth it.

Nothing wrong with a little addition to an already amazing game. Just as long as they don't republish it with one of those dumb ass "Better with Kinect" purple strips on the cover.
A shame the same voice support can't be done with a normal headset, is it that much of a toll on the xbox's processor that it can only be done by the kinect?
I bet someone could make a voice command mod for PC version. No need for Kinect and it would be free.

Well they were able to do it with Binary Domain, and I can't see SEGA have deeper pockets than ZeniMax, so likely it's mainly just another way for Microsoft to try to legitimize Kinect purchases.

@shadow2398: The other thing is that it's not so much about processing power (although when you consider how much processing power the graphics, physics, and AI routines are taking up, it could be), but the fact that the APIs are already there for Kinect, and thus there's no need to code any sort of voice-recognition algorithm into the game.
Bethesda are a pretty great company. No day one dlc, no crappy endings, free FEATURE dlc, consistent updates, steamworks, todd howards charming face.

The best part is, while some people noted they wish this was a PC mod and that it could happen with a normal headset, it's already happened. Months ago. Actually around like December or January. There was at least an alpha/video of a Kinect mod for the PC working well with Skyrim, including shouts, and one of the most popular gameplay-altering mods is the one that lets you do shouts with a headset mic. Yup. I love Bethesda, but beaten to it by modders. Again. Also, my condolences to the PS3 crowd.
Explain to me again why I need a $150 paperweight to do what ANY microphone on the fucking planet can already do? This "Kinect Support" is purely software related. Much like Mass Effect 3 it's just more money that Microsoft is throwing at "hardcore" game developers to put a "Kinect Enabled" sticker on their game box in an attempt to coax fickle gamers to waste their money on a Kinect.
They're really doing a piss poor job trying to market this thing to anyone other than a family gaming unit. They should just stick to what attracts people to Kinect and stop trying to force it down the "core gamers" throat

Your $3 headset doesn't have voice recognition built into it and it is expensive to build something like that from the ground up. Why spend extra resources on something that Microsoft is already providing free of charge?

Kinect has built in voice-recognition software while Sega had to create their own voice-recognition software for Binary Domain. so yeah, it's easier to just record some words and put them into patch than create entire software from scratch.

The thing about this patch is that it was made in house months ago. There was a video a while back which showed what came about in the week before the games release when the dev team was encouraged to work on their own mods for the game and this was one of them.
I can already see it now: People posting YouTube videos of them screaming dragon shouts at their T.V. not sounding anything like the game and probably have a really squeaky voice. Red Lightsaber videos everywhere.
Why do you need a Kinect to do voice commands? Why can't you do it with just a microphone on your XBox, PS3, or PC.
^^Oh, processing power, ok. My tablet handles voice recognition surprisingly well with a small app. It captures the voice, sends the sound to someplace online, and returns with the text of what was said. It's not exactly speedy but it is accurate. I anticipate voice recognition will be slow regardless, and when my battlemage cast etherial form, which was practically the only shout I used except in special circumstances, it had to be instantaneous.
