I'm sure it did well, but I doubt it's "the fastest selling consumer electronic in history" That's just crazy.
So... No, I can't believe that.
Uh, hold on, that doesn't add up.
I switched to Geico and saved 15% on my car insurance!
Seriously though, I dont believe it.
also that claim is complete bullshit, sure it sold well, but not that well
The fact that they STILL HAVE NOT RELEASED SALES FIGURES.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUPDRnUWeBA
Who cares? It's bullshit numbers interpreted in a way that makes the company look better. This happens with everything, everywhere.
In the world of statistics and polling, those are what are known as fallacies. Those are outlying examples that are 100% unreliable in finding the "truth". Good example is the whole "my grandmother smoked everyday and she lived to be 100, smoking must be good for you".
Not saying that they AREN'T lying, but not saying they are either. What I am saying, is that the argument "well near me..." and "well the people I know..." have zero bearing. You have tons where you are? Great, cause there are none where I live except the very last one that I bought. It is possible that it was the fastest selling (and I do not know what that actually means, so by their definition of "fastest" that may be quite accurate), but without knowing their definition it is hard to definitely say what they are referring to.
silly words from silly marketing departments.
maybe they mean the actual sales were fast, like shoppers run into the store, grab a kinect, sprint to the cashier and zip through the line. i prefer to think that's what they meant.
"Kinect has sold more than that thing you like, how does that make you feel?"
...nom nom.
It's so refreshing when consumers actually think for themselves and are able to make informed, critical decisions about the products they buy. So often it's just the bleating sheep herding themselves to slaughter.
"* in X months of time" method of boasting. As seen in the "sell through to retailers" inflation used as a metric of sales, instead of the original "sold to consumers".
Ah. Classic Microsoft. Love it or hate it, at least they learned from Sony that a product is never defective (it's a feature!), and if it is it's best not to admit it. Then you can issue a new product that will remedy the problems (360 Mini, hopefully) and have old buyers (old 360 owners) buying it and inflating your numbers (when they should've received a working product on dayone).
THIS.
Seriously, what the fuck is up with the dumbshit uneducated comments? "herpp durr, in their dreams! they didn't announce statistics derpp!"
EXCEPT THEY DID, at CES. 8 million in 2 months, trumping the iPad and the Wii. Granted, yeah, the iPad is more expensive, but price doesn't always mean everything as you can see when Sony released Move shipments (meaning the $50 move controller). In more than double the time on the market as Kinect, and 3x cheaper, they shipped 4 million of those controllers to retailers the first time Microsoft released Kinect numbers.
I guess it's easy to see why comments turned out this way with Jim's half-assed flamebait attempt, leaving out vital information as usual. It's just ironic that the information he left out are also from articles he wrote at the time, like this:
http://www.destructoid.com/ces-kinect-sells-over-8-million-360-breaks-50-million-190914.phtml
It's like some people are in denial or just refusing to admit Kinect's success, whatever that may be.
What exactly makes me stupid? I'm assuming your saying anyone who purchased a kinect is stupid. Right? My kids love it. My wife actually plays games now and at the end of the night I can still play deadspace 2. I'm failing to see what exactly makes people stupid. The only thing stupid in these comments are a bunch of holier than you (hardcore), Jaded gamers who can't accept that M$ made a smart move here.
THIS.
Seriously, what the fuck is up with the dumbshit uneducated comments?"
Because it is still bullshit?
This is Microsoft claiming Kinect is the "fastest-selling consumer electronics device in history". Ignoring how vague this statement is (what IS a consumer electronics device?) it is blatantly missleading.
If you take Kinect as a platform, they are decieving you because it get's sold with the hardware and you could almost not get the hardware without the system.
If you take it as an accesory, then it's patently false, since I'm pretty sure that MORE WIIMOTES HAVE SOLD IN 2 MONTHS THAN KINECTS, specially if you include those on the console, bundled with WiPlay and sold separately.
If you take it as an "consumer electronics device", you open the door to include millions of products in everyday life, including cell phones and children's toys.
8 million in 2 months. I've never heard of a "consumer electronic" selling that fast. People have posted plent of links in thus thread to support what M$ is saying. Where's your proof. Or anyone who says this is bullshit proof? I want a link showing another "consumer electronic" selling 8 million in 2 months please. Until then kindly fuck off bitchers:)
"8 million in 2 months. I've never heard of a "consumer electronic" selling that fast."
And you never will, because most cosumer electronics manufacturers don't boast their sales numbers.
Besides, use some common sense. As I told before, with the wii selling 5.4 million units and Wii Play selling 2 million in it's first 2 months, plus whatever amount of extra Wii remotes sold on the same period, the whole "fastest selling electronics device" thing is pure bollocks. And since the Nunchuck sold on a 3 to 1 basis to the system, you can add that to the mix.
