I don't plan on getting one, but it seems to be doing pretty well. I just hope MS provides us with actual sales numbers not the pull-the-wool-over-our-eyes shipped numbers that Sony tried to hand us.
I'd like to see sales numbers, and "returned after a week of disappointment" numbers. For everything, not just Kinect.

Will it outsell the iPad, like Microsoft claimed it would? The marketing budget Microsoft put behind Kinect will get it in people's living rooms.
But I am curious if it will suffer from what the Wii did. Very cool the first month, then after that it became boring and dusted down.

i know this makes me the scum of the earth, but i bought a Kinect w/ Dance Central with the intention of re-selling it the week before Christmas for stupid profit. After Thanksgiving, when people really get serious about Christmas shopping, i think Kinect will be going for $300+. i doubt it'll get anywhere near the Wii's ridiculous pre-Christmas $1000 asking price the year it launched, but if it'll put an extra $100+ in my pocket i don't mind being part of the problem.
Well anyone that buys these new systems or peripherals with the intention of selling them for a profit IS the SCUM OF THE EARTH. Get a real job assholes. Leave those fuckers on the rack so consumers can buy it for the price it's supposed to sell for.

what do you guys expect. Its ebay. filled with people that really dont want to sell anything, they just want to post things up at high markup to show people they have it.
Blame the people willing to pay the inflated prices, or the company for not being able to meet demand. Prices will be dictated by supply and demand, as well as people having to have it RIGHT NOW. We're not talking about lifesaving meds. You didn't have to pay $350 for a Wii, you just weren't willing to wait. YOUR CHOICE.
I've sold 5 copies of COD Black Ops Hardened edition for PS3, 2 @ $125, 2 @ $130, and 1 @ $199(!). I also sold a PS3 Prestige edition for $214. I'm not putting a gun to anyone's head and making them pay that much.

Wow. People are stupid. Figure it costs an average of 20% to sell your item on eBay. Kinect cost is $149.99 + $11.25 tax, $161.24 total. Selling is for $190 costs up to $38 in eBay and paypal fees. That brings the net to $152 and an average net LOSS of $9.24.
Moral of the story is....don't sell your Kinect on eBay thinking you'll make a profit.

The oil companies aren't putting a gun to someone's head, BUT, when they jack the price up a couple bucks on gasoline for some bullshit excuse and then they show the biggest profits in the company's history, they're not being greedy. @nanowerx: was that serious? I'm not sure if you even read the thing... but this is probably the most unbiased thing Jim has ever wrote. And I agree with him. People get RETARDED around christmas. I remember last year the big thing was zhuzhu pets. socccer moms the world over were waiting in line to purchase these things... not for their children, but for a quick buck on ebay. Suffice it to say, most of them where left with toys they couldn't get rid off even after christmas, when miraculously the fucking things showed up in droves a week after.

@ Jim: It was hard to find during the first 2 days, at least in stores. Amazon had it in stock all day on release day. All my local GameStops, Toys R Us' and Best Buys were sold out.

All the kinect haters are funny. It's fun fir what it is. It's not trying to replace the controller. It's offering a separate gaming experience to go along with an already established experience. The move however is a turd sandwich. I hate it and I hope it dies. Not really. It's fun for a HD wii, but that's how alot of people come off who haven't even tried kinect.
Two days after the Kinect's launch I was in Target and there were 5 Kinects there waiting to be sold. I'm guessing there weren't too many sold before that because the shelves didn't much room for too many more of the boxes.

no its MS making 3m units, shipping 1m, they sell out fast (because there arnt that many) MS will claim its the fastest selling item ever etc. then when people start to freak out there arnt enough units for xmas etc, then MS will release the other 2m units flooding the market and people will go nuts because it available now and make sure they snag one up before it sells out again. then MS will claim its the best selling thing ever.

Well... I won't argue with your math, but I think that's a worst case scenario.
There are plenty of places you can get a Kinect without sales tax, such as Amazon.com.
Also, you're overestimating eBay fees quite a bit.
If you were to sell an item on eBay (as a normal auction without having an eBay store) for $190, after eBay and PayPal fees (assuming you accept PayPal), you'd be making somewhere around $165.
So, it's not the huge loss that your math came out with, but... It's definitely not worth buying a Kinect just to sell on eBay to make 15 dollars either.
And if you DID have to pay sales tax on it when you purchased it, then you're just BARELY coming out even.

Price average on eBay is at around $195, with daily lowest at $150. Use eBay deal search tool and auction sniper software, it is not difficult to get one at $155. Use eBay bucks and affiliate program, you can save 4% off. So your take home price is $149, which is better than retail, which sells at $149 plus tax.
