Killzone series won't wait for PlayStation 4 photo

I love Killzone 2. It's still my most played game this year, and even though I've gone off it since the recent updates, I still duck in there to kick arse now and then. Luckily, there's still plenty of Killzone fun to come on the PS3, with Guerrilla confirming that it won't be waiting for a successor console to appear.

"PlayStation 3 has a very long life ahead still, and we're certainly not done developing for this platform. We still see enough opportunities to get better and pushing the platform even further," says senior producer Steven ter Heide.

Guerrilla couldn't comment on future projects, but ter Heide does state that the team is looking into new online modes for Killzone 2, which could prove quite interesting indeed. He also adds that there will never be a "true" party system for KZ2 due to the unfortunate way the game is set up. Something to fix in Killzone 3, perchance.

Killzone2 is the closest I have come to wanting a PS3. But having it on a friend's nearby console sates that thirst. Still, Killzone2 is the tits.

It would be nice to see Guerilla working on a new IP. As great as Killzone 2 is, it'd be nice to see them do something else. Too many shooters in the market as it is.

@PenKaizen: For what Rico's been through with Templar, I'd beat the fuck out of anyone who tried to insult him.

Didn't Sony state that the PS3 will last till 2015? That pretty much gives the devs 6 years to make Killzone 3.

Eh. I really don't need a party system. Once you're in a squad with someone, the game won't break you up and since it favors clan members (and friends?) being on the same team and automatically sticks you in their squad if there's an opening when you join, the slight addition a full on party system would make would probably only get in the way of faction balancing.

@chronic
It probably won't stay their flagship system. They're just not going to xbox-one it out of existence, kind of like how they still support the PS2. If Killzone 3 were going to come out in 2015, I doubt it would be on the PS3. It's too much multiplayer stuff to be the PS3's God of War 2.

Well why would they wait, they have created a great game engine( that was the main problem) that few games stand up too, they have blu ray so space isn't a problem and a growing fanbase, the supports there, they said themselves they couldn't pull out all the ps3s power, it wouldn't make senese to wait.

In the downloadable "behind the bullet" thing with commentary from different members of GG, there's mention of stuff that they developed but didn't have time to put into Killzone 2. Didn't remember that in time for my last post. We, or maybe just I, could be overestimating the amount of work they need to do. Not to be all "perfact gaem omgz", but how much better does a game need to look or sound? They could really focus on just campaign and multiplayer content. They can't slack, but it cuts out a big portion of the technical development if they already have some done.

Guerrilla Games is a young and inspiring studio. When I've spoken to them they were so enthusiastic about pretty much everything. The closest comparison I can make is a kid in a bathtub full of LEGO's. Find new stuff and be really excited about it every time.

I really really hope Luger comes back. For me she's got the best gun in any FPS. Also online Co-op mode.

@Takeshi: I second that luger motion, I would love me some stealthy gameplay.

New modes would be nice! The existing modes are good... but it doesn't take too long before they become very predictable. We all know where the speaker spawns, we all know where it has to go to... we all know the attack/defend areas... it would actually be nice if these were more randomized so people didn't have as much a chance to prepare. (and yeah, I hope they add a female avatar or class in any new updates).

Still, it's a good game and the squad mechanics work well! It's too bad that they can't do a party system, but you can still find a game your friend is in and squad up with them... and if there are enough people they still give the ability to create a private passworded game.

I think they need to make a LEGO Killzone 2.

You should jump back in again, Jim. Although you're still vulnerable the moment you show up after spawning, they tweaked it a bit such that you don't necessarily spawn right on top of the spawn grenades, so people camping them don't get a definite kill.

With all the time and money they dumped into making KZ2 look as good as it does, it'd be fail to not develop one more game on the PS3.
