The latest issue of EDGE magazine brings word that Guerrilla Games is hard at work on a brand new chapter of the Killzone series, which is not yet being called Killzone 4. Series producer Steven Ter Heide is said to be on board as director this time around.
Studio recruiter Adrian Smith is quoted as saying, "We've got to continue the Killzone franchise" in the magazine.
Guerrilla is also working on a brand new IP, while Studio Cambridge is bringing a Killzone game to the PlayStation Vita. There is also speculation that whatever the next Killzone chapter is, it might be prepped for the PlayStation 4 rather than PS3. The idea comes from recent news that one major Sony developer is already working on PS4 content.
Whatever's happening, I've always got time for red-eyed space fascists, so this is cool news!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm interested to revisit the Killzone universe but I'd rather see something new. I always get really excited for KZ games, but always feel let down after the sheen wears off.
--Mild Spoiler--
So, I'm wondering, after that ending, will we see an invasion of Earth? That's kind of been done to death, but with a sci-fi setting it could be interesting, especially if they keep the environments varied like they did in KZ3.
Killzone 2 MP was amazing.
While I enjoyed killzone 3 more, I cannot disagree about the online component.
Done to death or not, I'm fine with it since it's the natural progression of the story and makes sense in context.
And yeah, the arctic platform set piece was badass, but I preferred the giant trash compactor vehicle thing.
I can't wait to see whatelse they can do.r
Sounds like you might have eye problems.....
K2 & 3 were radical AND badical to the max.
I expect 1080p and, if there's a god, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio support. If that's the case then yes, there will be much blowing (the good kind).
Still, I guess if they launch it with the PS4, make the campaign longer than 4 and a half fucking hours, dump those generic soldiers we've been forced to play as and give us some interesting protagonists, and give us a legitimate co-op offering instead of some half assed two player co-op campaign with no online support, than I might change my tune.
after Killzone 3 which was down right atrocious(and in terms of quality and content simply insulting to gamers) i really hoped they would just stop. you know there's something wrong when your game makes storylines from BF3 and CoD games not only good but also intelligent. add to the fact multiplayer that was seriously lacking(8 maps and 3 basic game modes are you kidding me?). there is fuckton of downloadable titles that give you more.
either make an effort working on the next game or don't do it at all.
YEAH!
Come, now. Don't cast aspersions on a respected member of our community. You know as well as I that sofik is totally objective and unbiased.
On a related note, I'd love to call sofik up late at night and whisper "Jim gave Killzone 3 a 10", and let that sink into his subconscious. Oh, the nightmares that would spawn.
I'm suddenly reminded of The Ring. Phone rings late at night, a voice whispers "Killzone 3 got a 10." A week later, this happens...
First off, ditch the Helghast. They're done for, you forced the hand, Guerrilla, now it's time to create a species that is far more menacing. When Vekta is brought to committee for actions taken upon Helghan, this species arrives above Earth and is looking to eliminate all other celestial beings to declare their home star system is the only one that exists. Engagements not only can occur in our solar system (Titan, anyone?) or Alpha Centauri, (where Helghan and Vekta are located,) but in other nearby systems and with better space combat than before.
Bring back Malcom McDowell and Sean Pertwee for voice acting;
Bring the multiplayer back to that of Killzone 2, but keep the brutal melee kills from Killzone 3;
Use some of the extensive plot that Guerrilla created and put on their website but not in the games;
KILL RICO DEAD.
