For how fun and high quality it is, I'm sad that Sony never seems to push the Killzone brand as much as Microsoft does with Halo. In many respects I think Killzone is better, but it always seems no one really knows about it or plays it as heavily as other top brand shooters.
In the viking books of Bernard Cornwell there is a ship called "Helghast". It means "Holy Ghost" in early anglo-saxon (in the books it is a very impressive and expensive warship constructed by Alfred the Great to battle viking incursions into Wessex).
So maybe the Helghast are even less of the bad guys than we figured?

I'm still loving the beta. I'm buying this for the multiplayer anyway, so a hawt story is some nice icing on what's looking to be a balls-to-the-wall awesome game.
Hope this going to better game then first one. Singleplayer was reallly boring and generic, without "teh graphic" noone gonna buy this...

It took me over 5 months to beat the campaign. I hated it while playing through it and it wasn't until the final scene when I realized I had actually approached the story in the wrong way. I was always expecting an "action movie", something more along the lines of Resistance or Halo. What I got what closer to the Vietnam or Iraq War. It was literally a war story. They were so close to producing the perfect war game too. Add a bit more character development, clearer past motivations for your squad and enemies, a few civilians hiding in the cross-fire, and GG would have absolutely hit it out of the park.
So yeah, I'm just a little pumped for KZ3 :D

This is where Killzone can learn to take a page from Halo. Bungie does a really good job of weaving the story into the gameplay. Killzone just passes it like a bowel movement. Its such a shame too. The Killzone storyline is actually very interesting, but everything I've learned about it is from taking my own time to read about it online.
All I really want is a Rico-free experience. I still haven't finished KZ2's campaign because I have to listen to Rico bitch every time he gets downed. It's just not worth it.

The background stories for Killzone are really fucking awesome, it's such a shame the previous games are held back by Clichés and poor pacing.
Rico is not the most likable character but he does a good job of contrasting Sev. Both want justice, both care deeply about their friends but they both have different ways going about things. Whereas Sev is all about doing things by the book trying to bring peace, Rico's emotions get the better of him as he doles out his own form of justice. Rico has a deep hatred for the Helghast but he won't stop himself from knocking out a fellow ISA member if they badmouth his friends either, as seen after Templar's death.
If anything, Killzone 3 will show a strained relationship between Sev and Rico. Sev was clearly angered and disappointed with Rico at the end of the game, which was on top of Rico's hotheadedness that got Garza killed. It would be no surprise if the two go their separate ways. And now this is all speculation on my part, but since Sev doesn't see the Helghan people as his enemy, just their leaders, it could be possible that the two take opposite sides in the Halghast's civil war. Ok I'm going to stop talking now...

I'm not sure about Killzone 2, but the first was pretty stupid. I can't really remember the whole premise, but the game was slow as hell. It really just wasn't fun at all.
CelicaCrazed: Ooo that would be interesting. I know what you're saying about Rico. He's meant to be an unlikable character. He's the asshole workmate who pisses you off that you have to put up. Not a relationship commonly portrayed in games. Not intentionally at least.
I hate to jump on the 'hate rico' bandwagon, but yeah he was a pain in the ass, espcially when he would disobey direct orders from sev, "like hey wait, we need to be tactical" or " hey (spoiler) don't fuckin kill visari".
Absolutely agree. The Killzone universe has an amazing long-term storyline, but the kick was - it was barely referred to in the game (it's all on the KZ website - how the Helghast became the way they were etc). I really hope they put a bit of that in KZ3, even if it's just in things like audio diaries or something.
Plus, I hope they rip off Modern Warfare by starting the game with you being Rico and then getting your head blown off.

Seriously though, going by the games only, the Helghast don't come off as simply "defending Helghast interests." When you have a military structure that creates an officer willing to EXECUTE a soldier for dress code violation, you're not making building up a military in order to "defend Helghast interests."
