"I'm still no the fence"
Sounds awesome! I kinda like 3D stuff but a few of my friends see no differece at ALL, I think they are crazy and the depth perception is there and some things come out a bit and they see nothing at all, what the hell!
The jetpack sounds very cool as well, another game I am looking forward to getting my greasy hands on.
I will NOT be using 3D.
Hate to mention, but it does seem awfully early for a sequel. My only fear is that they do a Resistance 2 and basically copy controls from Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
I know I'll get called out for saying this, but how were the controls? And what I mean by that is, do you still have to hold down L2 to stick to cover and hold in the right joystick to aim down the sites?
I'm not at all bothered about the 3D aspect. I imagine Sony want this more than consumers do. But, I do want more Helghast stomping! Killzone 2 REALLY did it for me. I LOVE that shit and will be buying Killzone 3 [and probably 4, 5, 6.. etc.]
I just feel like the game would have greatly benefited from a "lock into cover" button. After all, third person shooters all utilize the feature, and it works just fine for them.
Also, adding the feature wouldn't have changed a thing about the gameplay itself (for the record, I enjoyed the cover system and the "weight" of the controls overall). All it would have changed was to free up the L button for "aim down the sites", which is where it feels most natural.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I hate having to hold down the joystick button to aim while at the same time moving the joystick to look around. It shouldn't have to be so hard...
The campaign was indeed generic, but I rather enjoyed it... mostly for the AI I guess. I thought most of the firefights were really challenging (in a good way). Didn't really care for the protagonists much, but I've seen worse. I liked the multiplayer game a lot, but I just don't throw down on much multiplayer anymore.
@Phantom Spaceman
I'm all for options, but personally I liked the weightiness of the controls/camera.
@mrandydixon
I had a problem getting accustomed to the control layout too. I tried setting them up more COD influenced, but that never seemed to work very well either. I ended up just forcing myself to get used to the default layout as it felt like it fit the gameplay better. After a while I was pretty comfy w them.
I tried all of the prefab control schemes, but none of them worked for me, so I went back to the defaults like you. I got used to them eventually, I just had a difficult time keeping my fingers from cramping.
This is why console devs (almost all of them) need to pull their heads out of their asses and allow full customization like PC devs.
Still, it sounds like they learned a heck of a lot from the first one so this one should really be something special. Color me excited!!
For referance, R3 is melée, triangle switches weapons, R2 throws grenades, L3 dashes, x jumps, up on dpad toggles zoom/flashlight, circle toggles croutch, left right down toggles grenades and knife.
I really hope they do this.
(other complaint was the six axis motion controlled explsovie planting. That was completely pointless.)
3D is CHEAP man.
I paid damn near $3k CDN for my tv almost 2 years ago(46" 120hz Samsung LCD) and you can get a 46" Samsung LCD 3D TV for $2k CDN......Makes me sad.
"You 3D haters are the same as the people who couldn't cope with colour tvs after black and white ones, or the introduction of sound after the silent early movies."
Well I don't know about anyone else but I just lol'd. I can't believe someone just made that comparison.
Oops. Stupid error. Had to write this one up pretty quickly this morning, so I'm sure some stuff slipped through.
@mrandydixon:
Controls seemed tight to me, but to address your point -- tapping the shoulder button HELD the crouch, and clicking in the stick held the zoom. But it sounds like @Neroisonfire already helped you out there!
I also didn't feel like I was a midget, although it's been awhile since I played Killzone 2, so maybe the view was the same.
@Atomik888:
My indifference to 3D has nothing to do with not being able to afford it; it's based on my experiences with it thus far. Killzone 3 isn't the first (yet-to-be-released) FPS that I've played in 3D. I appreciate the effect, but I'm not sure how much it's adding to the experience to make it worthwhile. This, of course, is in short spurts. Maybe a few hours of it would change my mind.
I'd be neat if they went ahead and did the more standard shooter controls mixed with KZ's controls. Like being able to aim the sights with L1 and be able to release them but like in
KZ2 press R3 (it was R3 right?) to have the sight stick.
Little question here, what are jump packs? It seems it was a complaint from what I read there. Is it like the jumping over little obstacles we do in Call of Duty and other shooters? Can sound stupid since I'm pretty much an FPS vet, but it's the first time I see 'jump packs' lol. =/
@Every single 3D haters:
Dudes, 3D is here to stay. You may like it, you may hate it, it's still going to happen. Now can we just move on and stop this whole gimmick-haters thing. Did you play Killzone 3 in 3D? Probably not. Then, do like everyone else; wait and see. We just can't control it, it's gonna happen. So we should just accept it and live with it, right?
Oh noes, they still have the weighted movement? D: If that's the case, this just went from a 'maybe' to a 'no' for me.
