[Update: FirstPlay has issued a correction (via CVG) to its preview, stating that the information about a four-player cooperative mode in Killzone 3 is "erronous."
""Unfortunately the Killzone 3 preview contains a piece of erroneous information about a four-player co-op mode which isn't present in the game. It was something that had been rumored that we mistakenly picked up on as fact. Apologies for that, especially to Guerilla for whom this has been an annoyance," the statement reads.
But if it did exist, that would be pretty great, though, eh?]
Did you find the endless swarms of Helghast a bit too hot to handle in Killzone 2? Maybe backup from three friends will help you out! It has been confirmed that a special four-player co-op mode is coming to Killzone 3.
The only thing we know about the four-player section is that it will be "objective based," meaning that it's unlikely to be a horde mode or anything comparable. Still, it's quite interesting to see, and seems to indicate that Guerrilla is really doing all it can to make Killzone 3 much bigger than the last game.
I look forward to seeing what this co-op mode is all about in any case!

I wanted co op to be inthe last game so glad it's going to be in kz3
Major flaw of KZ2 SP was that your support 'friends' really sucked. It just really ruined the illusion. They yelled stuff, but wouldn't fire their f'ing weapons.
That's all I'll need.
When you think about it...12 maps...each with 7 game modes...That is a decent amount of co-op experience that KZ2 already has. I spent a lot of time trying to take on 16 elite bots as only me and my friend.
I'm against split-screen. It would take far too much development time and would cause them to limit the potential of the single player game, just so that split-screen would run. I think there should be games out there for the splitscreen people, but Killzone just isn't that kind of experience.

Your fucking nuts dude. There's a reason games like Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead are extremely popular on the multiplayer front, and it ain't just because of their popularity which helps, it's the wealth of multiplayer options that allow for bigger fuller games with more players.
Last few times I checked Killzone 2, it was barely hanging on with one lobby after only a YEAR on the market. Halo 3 has been out for 3 and never wanting for players. Think I'm being biased?
Jump back over to PS3 and even Resistance 2's online is alot busier that KZ2 a ever is...atleast when I'm around
Sony is really missing out on the splitscreen gravy train. It's a huge feature that only bolsters replay value.
I call dibs on Rico! He knows what I'm fucking talking about.
I agree with garethxxgod, you're crazy if you want to get rid of or discourage splitscreen in more games. There's a reason why my friends and I (and I'm sure many college students all over America) all still play Halo 3 even though we all honestly hate it and are totally bored of it. It's because it's the only splitscreen multiplayer game out there worth playing. We'd all honestly rather be playing Bad Company 2 or even Modern Warfare 2 but those don't support splitscreen (online) multiplayer.
Jeez, now that I think about it, no wonder why everybody still keeps an N64 around for parties.
THANK GOD!!
When my friends come round I don't really play games, I talk, eat, play poker, get drunk and MAYBE get the Rockband out. But we don't sit and billy away at Haloz splitscween yo!
I mean it's not like my Baby or Mrs Choco are going to play split screen shooters with me! LittleBig Planet, sure, maybe even a bit of rockband, but Killzone 3 - Fuck no. That's one to play on my own, and I like it that way.
Killzone needs something more than just 4 player co-op. Everyone else is doing this now so this should be a standard for this kind of title anyway. It shouldn't be news worthy.
What they should be doing is figuring out how to introduce something new to 4 player co-op.
The news we should be reading is "4 player role-op comes to Killzone 3" or something like that.
Not just 4 guys doing the same thing, but something more intelligent and engaging that makes it more than 4 guys just doing the story together. How about 2 on 2 counter op?

Gee-man, I don't want to discourage split-screen for all games, but for certain ones that are meant to push the online multiplayer or single player experience, I would rather they use their development time on something that most of us use. Killzone is not a party game...It isn't pick up and play. It is designed for clan play...it doesn't even offer free for all modes. Games are usually 1-2 hours long. It is just not designed to be a party game. Split-screen means that they can't maximize the potential of the hardware when only one person is playing.
You should check again sometime soon.
Keep in mind that full games don't show up on the search. They only show up when there is an open spot. So, there are always games going on that you can't see. But that doesn't matter, because if you do a standard search you will get plenty of 32 player warzones that only have a few open spots.
There are 40 32-player matches with open spots. About 30 of those are nearly full. (probably 10-20 more that are full.)
40-50 is much better than 1...and this is the dead time.
And then there are all the matches of under 32 players (I usually prefer 8v8s)
Either way I stand by my splitscreen for KZ. More people will play it if they can bring a friend in with them. Not enough Sony games are taking advantage of it. It's a shame to cut off such options when it's usually a huge deciding factor not even so much purchase wise, but replay value wise.
There isn't any need to make it look like people are playing there games because there are over a 100 rooms right now... Probably 3 times that much when it is nighttime in the States. Yea, I underestimated when I said 50 rooms earlier.
From a business decision, maybe split-screen makes sense (The game probably wouldn't look as good graphically though, so they might lose some of the sales numbers they gained from a different kind of customer.) But as a Killzone player, it is a non-issue for me. We need blind clan-matchmaking, a new clan ranking system, match replays, and we need the kind of support that the PC version of Team Fortress 2 gets. Killzone 2 isn't a party game...it takes a while to learn how to play it properly...I'd rather they expand on what it does best, which is teamwork and atmosphere, and not try to appeal to the casual market.
The idea here is this, most multiplat games are usually single person sessions, it's the exclusives that need the more robust multiplayer to draw people to their system for online. It's sad Sony doesn't want to do this, prefering to keep it single person sessions in all their big exclusives. It boils down to this, more people in a session equals more fun. Your more apt to get more people with splitscreen options than getting people to buy either both a PS3 and/or the game in question. Half the comments in here can attest to that.
And yes you want to appeal to the casual
market. You should want
your games to be popular,
for people to want to buy your system. Especially in todays multiplayer centric market, where sadly Xbox Live trounced PSN because. They've established several ways to play their games. Not to say beautiful looking games like KZ2 can't exist, bit overall Sony needs to start making the PS3 more multiplayer friendly on a larger scale.
What, by MAKING SURE EVERY PS3 OWNER IN THE WORLD WITH AN INTERNET CONNECTION CAN GAME ONLINE WITHOUT JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS AND PAYING EXTRA?
Hell they even self publish online only games - games without a single player story what so ever, which can only be played online!
Sony encourages people to game online like no other company. Sony considers online play something for ALL PS3 owners. Hell the Ps3 is designed to be always connected to the internet.
MS considers online gaming an "extra luxury" that HALF of it's userbase sign up for and pay for, and for those who have WiFi to pay YET MORE for.
The xbox is an offline console with the ability to be played online.
The PS3 is an ONLINE console.
Sorry, tell me again which company encourages online gaming?
Oh yeah, and how Killzone's online works is nothing to do with Sony, sony let PUBLISHERS and DEVELOPERS set up and run the online service for their games, so a problem with killzone's online setup is a problem with Guerilla - not Sony. (unless KZ is published by Sony, then fair do's, it's some department of Sony who have a hand in it, but Guerilla still designed it)
