Killzone 3 confirmed

Killzone 3 confirmed photo

Like it needed confirmation in the first place! SCEA president Jack Tretton has confirmed Killzone 3, stating that while he can't guarantee any news on the game will be had at E3, he can promise that the game is on the way. Thus ends the worst kept secret in Sony's bag of tricks.

"I’m saving the batter for E3. We will absolutely bring the heat," says Tretton, weirdly, on the latest episode of GTTV. "... We own Guerrilla [Games] and they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2. I don’t know whether you’ll see announcements about it [at E3], but I can promise you a Killzone 3."

Sounds like Sony has some hotness in the works. I just hope it isn't all to do with PlayStation Move, and that the DualShock still has a part in Sony's current plans. In any case, I loved Killzone 2 with a passion, so I'm all about the idea of a new game coming. I've always got time to shoot Future Nazis in their space faces.

How many times have we heard the words "Sony" and "worst kept secret" in the same sentence so far? They seriously need to work on that...

Also, awesome! Never played the multiplayer on it, but the parts of the single player I played were fucking excellent.

I don't know why but Killzone 2 didn't entertain me a little bit. I may pass on this one, not sure though, maybe they offer me something incredible.

Yeah... it's got the best shooting mechanics of any PS3 FPS game so far... now if they can fix the points thing in the multiplayer to make it actually team oriented - they have a massive winner!

Jim, don't be an idiot. Sony isn't chucking the DualShock for motion controls.

Am I one of the few that actually enjoyed Killzone 2 more then Halo 3, or ODST? lol

I know it's all the generic "future guns go pew pew, save the planet" type thing, but I enjoyed the time they put into making a visually polished, and amazing multiplayer game.

@Nyktharas:

No you are not the only one... I bought a Xbox 360 for Halo 3 and Gears and I mut say those games beat WoW as overrated games.

@Nitex:

I don't know about Amazon, but yesterday I went to walmart to buy GoW3 and I noticed that Killzone 2 was still priced at 69.99$ for some weird reason...

Love Killzone 2. But dammit, I'm stuck on the final boss. Such a cheap fight. Just keeps frustrating me that I can't beat him for some reason... This is what I get for playing on the highest difficulty available at the beginning.

I think Sony in the last years have had pretty good E3 keynotes, so I am looking forward to what they'll be showing. They have a lot of sequels to announce, and a Jak and Daxter game.

Real shocker here. The original KZ was terrible; KZ2 was average at best, but a significant improvement over the original. If the trend continues, KZ3 should be pretty damn good.

I "liked" kill zone 2's multiplayer, but I was never in love with it. however, after playing Bad Company 2, which I have fallin' in love with, I kind of want to go back to KZ2 to see if I can get into it again. Though I think BC2 is way better, the class system is similar, and even the controls some what, it's a much more thinking game, you can't just spam the trigger button and get a few kills. BC2 has made me respect that kind of game play.

Colour me stoked but not surprised.

Jim, was there really any need for that move comment? I hope it does include move support, but i'd put money on it being optional if it does.

FUCK YEAH!

KZ2's multiplayer is one of the best this generation. ALPHA vs BETA will be reborn and bloodier than ever! It just needs to be a bit better balanced at launch.

Also, the "kill beep" is orgasmic. More games need one.

After playing Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, I am really hoping that it DOES includes move support. I've been playing fps with the dualshock for a couple of years, and I still think it sucks. A lot.

"Jim, was there really any need for that move comment?"

Is there really any need for you to get annoyed by anything that isn't unequivocal Sony praise? ;-)

But there was a need for it. Killzone 3 is already rumored for Move support, and I am just saying, I don't want all of Sony's existing franchises to go Move-crazy. My time with the Wii has told me that I don't like motion-controlled FPS games very much. I love Killzone 2 and I'd really like to keep loving the franchise. I would find it difficult if I had to deal with wonky, inferior FPS controls.

We all know every game will be 10 thousand times better with Move, because Sony makes it. F'Duh.

KZ2 was the biggest gaming let down of all time for me. They turned a potentially interesting universe in to another brown and grey 'tough marine' shooter with a terrible story and completely unlikable characters.

So clearly I'm excited for the next one... I bet its not totally more of the same generic uninspiring bs.

I guarantee you KZ3 will use Move controls just like every Wii FPS. They didn't talk about FPS control that Dear Playstation commercial for no reason. Every FPS will likely have it. Are there any Wii FPSs that don't use it?

I don't really care either way. I prefer dualshock since that is what I used to, but I can live with using motion, as long as I dont have to shake or waggle.

Really excited for KZ3. KZ2 was the greatest online shooter I've played since the original Unreal Tournament.

The Killzone games aren't that great. They are fairly cookie-cutter shooters. Now Metro 2033 has some scope to it. Hope you fans like getting milked.

The campaign is cookie-cutter aside from the AI.
The multiplayer borrowed a lot, and made a ton of its own innovations, some of which were adopted by MW2. It still seems to be a generation above MW2 though...If you didn't know when the games were released, you would think KZ2 came out a few years later, based on feature.

I spent a year playing Killzone. Long article about that experience here:

I've decided that I want the DualShock updated so that the sides of the controllers have a conductive surface. Instead of just getting rumble, the DualShock4 should also be able to deliver a mild electric shock to the user.

@Ramalho

Totally agree, it bored me so much I think I only got half-way through the game before I decided it was formulaic, and had the same gameplay as every other shooter I'd ever played not to mention I disliked the weapon selection and the story/characters. It's probably just me, so chill out fanboys. I'd like a truly exceptional sci-fi shooter with a good story (I was actually a bit disappointed by Mass Effect 2's, although I still love that game more than any other space opera), but I mean a new FPS that is a completely new IP. It probably wont happen anytime soon since everyone's milking sequels, but I can dream right?

Is Metro 2033 decent? Destructoid didn't do a review of it and I haven't checked elsewhere, and I haven't heard anyone talk about it. If it's decent SP I might think about getting/renting it.

Umm... There's kind of a difference here. No Wii FPS has been done without motion control because there are no other options for the Wii. Unless Nintendo makes a dual joystick controller or a Wii mouse and keyboard, they can't do an FPS without motion control.

@ndschroede23

I haven't played it yet, but the one review I've read (and the few posted on Metacritic) have been surprisingly positive. It's next on my GameFly queue, and I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

I'm looking forward to KZ3 a lot. I have no problem if they decide to implement the Move (still a dumb name) as long as they leave an option for classic controls. If they have it where you can use the Move or a Dualshock I'll be very happy.

I can't wait to shoot some space nazis!
