Killzone 2 preorders hit 1.1 million in Europe photo

Sony might be reeling from some significant hardware losses, but the house of PlayStation does have one thing to smile about -- preorders for Killzone 2 have hit the 1.1 million mark in Europe. Over a million sales right off the bat isn't too bad at all.

Killzone 2 is hyped to the stars, and this European figure (US sales not included) comes before Sony's absurd £2 million advertising campaign has even started. The demo is due to hit today as well, so keep an eye on the PSN if you're eligible for the download.

This game is Sony's first big right hook of the 2009 fight, and with three weeks until launch, nearly all eyes are focused on this hard sci-fi shooter. There's no doubt in my mind that this game will be a success and most eclipse the PS3's previous exclusives in terms of sales and consumer interest.

However, will it deserve its success? You will have to wait for the Destructoid review to find out, because we tell you what to think.

Looks like this game will blow away the past and future competition for quite a while.

Quote from 1up: "Expectations on Killzone 2 had reached ridiculous proportions; here's one of those cases where the game actually lived up to them."

Yay

Good! I was first considering renting this game, but now I'm considering buying it right off the bat. I don't know where to stand. I hope this game will be a great selling point for Sony and for Guerrilla games. I only wish games like MGS4 and LBP got as much marketing attention as Killzone 2 has gotten. Oh well live and let die.

To be honest, there's nothing a non-coop based shooter could do nowadays that could really draw me in; I've kind of lost interest in buying FPS games.

I will be picking up the demo and playing it to death, however.

I too hope this game turns into a great selling point for Sony. I personally want the PS3 to bounce back because its really just mismarketing and an initial steep price that pushed the system so far back in the first place... not really games or the actual system.

Lets hope the game lives upto the hype. Most of the time games are there own worst enemy on the ol hype machine...
Im betting COD will still own the charts (also helped by being multiplatform)

@TorpedoTed - do you even have a PS3? If not, why do you care if it lives up to the hype.

Your comment sounds like a case of sour grapes.

Anyways, I've pre-ordered here in the US....so it'd be interesting to see the US numbers as a comparison.

@Cotton McKnight,

I think the truth is that Dtoid haven't been sent a copy yet.

Well, that was the word earlier this week.

I've gotten a bit tired of FPS games lately, but this game looks very interesting. I'm downloading the demo as we speak, and if it turns out I like it, then I might just pre-order it as well.

Things are looking amazing for the PS3 this year.

Clance: Ignore Cotton, he's just being a baby.

He also says we do things to deliberately be different, unaware of the hypocrisy in his constantly posting about how much he hates Left 4 Dead in L4D threads.

Hypocrite complainer is hypocritical.

Blah blah blah. Please tell me when your record becomes unstuck, son.

See, I've chosen to assume your reasoning for compulsively posting about your hatred of L4D. Kinda like how you assume we post our reviews to be different. Seems you get aggressive and abusive when the shoe is on the other foot, eh? Don't you like it? I guess it's not nice when someone else plays armchair psychologist.

Our reviews ain't changing. Grow up and get used to it.

Cotton McKnight is a Troll. Jim, please quit feeding the Troll. Also, after this comment, I expect you to attack me with your verbal nonsense as you do with the rest of the majority here. Go for it, I can take it!

Kalhmah: Why would you expect that when I only attack people who attack me first?

what about if they dont quite attack. but, they do swing their arms around wildly and call you names? Sometimes giving you a little push when your around your friends.

your a bad man!

also, been giving the KZ2 demo a good thrashing. VERY impressive audio/visual and nice fun gun-play too. Admittedly the controls feel a little too heavy. but, it very much suits the style and surroundings. Looking forward to playing some more of it :D

Jim: No, I expect Cotton to attack me with his verbal nonsense, not you... I just wanted you to stop feeding the Troll... should have made that a bit more clear.
