Sony seems really excited about the whole 3D gaming thing. That is probably why the most recent episode of Qore had a little primer for what people can expect when Sony adds the feature to the PlayStation 3 this summer.
While we were aware of some currently released games that would take advantage of the feature -- Super Stardust HD is actually pretty damn neat in 3D, btw -- the Qore segment showed a big one that had yet to be revealed. Surprise! It's Killzone 2.
Forgetting for a moment all the challenges that face this supposed 3D gaming revolution, it's about damn time that they confirmed a first-person shooter. Hard as it would be to imagine them launching the feature without what's almost certainly the most popular genre on consoles, I've learned not to try and guess what Sony might think is a good idea.
PS3 users can check out the latest episode of Qore on PSN now.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sure, something like Stardust where the whole game is on the screen from the same angle, little games like that, I get 3D being a cool little gimmick.
But regular games? Or Killzone 2?
With all the looking around and fast camera switches as well as the idea of wearing stupid glasses the whole time...well, maybe they figured it out and it'll blow our minds. But I've got a feeling we're looking at another "hey, people don't want rumble in their controllers anymore" level of smart moves.
Prove me wrong, Sony. I want to believe!
I was hoping they'd try it with Uncharted 2.
I know I know don't feed the trolls
Also, Killzone 2 was kind of meh, and I got it day one.
Is it possible that Killzone 2 didn't impress everyone else as much as you? Yeah, I think so. I agree with Shadowii on this one. Big deal.
Well at least now the browns and begies can look even more drab.
(PS3 gets YLOD)
Sony Customer Service: Hello, How may i help you?
Me:Hey there how much is it going to cost for a fix
Sony Customer Service: £150 in other words...FUCK U NIGGA U GOT SCREWED!!!!
I'm playing through the 2009 A Boy and His Blob right now, and it screams "labor of love." This isn't the kind of game that'll get published in the 3D era (if it's even made in the first place).
I hope this trend takes a nosedive because no one can adopt the technology. It's little more than a "me too!" status symbol now, and adds nothing to films or movies (other than higher ticket prices).
"OMG I have to wear GLASSES"
"ZOMG 3D ruins the game!"
shut up. I can only imagine what you guys said when analog sticks were announced
But here's the fallacy in your argument: Analog sticks are the standard for game controllers. I don't believe 3D will ever be a "standard" from the perspective that it's expected that you will play nearly every new game in 3D the way you play nearly every new game with analog sticks today. I just don't forsee a mass adoption rate for what's essentially a visual gimmick that will require most users to spend money on an entirely new compatible display and accessories.
When (if? I still have doubts here too) the feature becomes standard on all televisions, then it has a shot. But they'll never make a mainstream, AAA title that's solely available in 3D because they don't want to reduce the customer base. So, unlike the analog sticks, 3D will forever be optional and therefore more likely to fail.
Uncharted 2 in 3D would be awesome, Killzone 2, ehhh
Why ruin it for others who actually are into that sort of thing? If you don't want to use the 3D feature, then don't. It's really that simple. I'm not all that into it myself, so I just don't use it. I'm not hoping it fails or is removed just because I don't like it personally. That's just selfish thinking.
For now your logic is sound. Once it ceases to be an option (which is bound to happen) that argument won't hold water anymore.
I played RE5 in 3D. It was truly an amazing experience. If it's done well, it's great. However, we are on the edge of a 'me too' revolution of 3D games, as someone else mentioned above.
