Killzone 2 getting new maps and guns for multiplayer? photo

It looks like the next update for Killzone 2 has been revealed via the gift of PS3 Trophies, as new awards for an unannnounced batch of downloadable content have made their way into the clammy hands of Internet gamers. Two new maps will also be joined by two new weapons, if the list of Trophies is indeed real.

The maps will be known as "Suljeva Cliffside" and "Arctower Landing", while two powerful guns from the single-player mode, the Boltgun and the Flamethrower, are scheduled to make an appearance. Toasty.

It's unclear how the Flamethrower and Boltgun will appear, but my guess is that they'll be pickups on the new maps, rather than weapons that you can equip and take anywhere. The guns are simply way too powerful to be included as part of a character class, so I'd imagine you'll have to prize them from someone's cold, dead hands on the battlefield before getting some use out of the things.

We'll have to see how it goes. It's good to see Guerilla continuing to support the game, though, even if it seems that most online users aren't bothering with the new content.

I can already hear other players crying FOUL at the appearance of the Boltgun and Flamethrower. It's war, be glad they don't have inflatable cocks as melee weapons.

Hot. I love the boltgun. I hope it still throws bodies around and staples people to walls.

This would be kinda bullshit if the Bolt gun and the Flame thrower are only available to those who buy the maps. I think those guns should come in as an update or a free DLC. But the maps are fine for a charged DLC.

I'm getting tired of the constant influx of "pay as you go" map packs. I'd much rather see some free content in the way of new classes or some updates that allow people to preview a game's settings before joining the game. The maps are nice... but they really don't change the basic gameplay enough to warrant the cost. With Warhawk, the map packs added new vehicles that really switched up the gameplay and all of their maps offered several variations in size. The constant influx of new map packs just feels kind of "cheap" in Killzone - too many of them, too fast. New weapons might change things a bit... but they really should be free and should be incorporated on all the maps. :(

I'm sure, or at least hoping, that the new guns will be available for all. Not sure if they'll be tied into a new class or just as extra weapons for the grunt soldiers. But you'll only get the trophies if you buy the map pack.

Well maybe I should pick up a $50 PSN Card instead of a $20 card instead...

Are people really not buying the new map packs? I haven't really noticed. I fucking love KZ2 multiplayer. I've put in maybe only 4 hours in the single player campaign. I should probably finish that... eh.

The big thing here are the weapons. Let's see how that turns out.

If that Flamethrower is the same as in the Single Player I'm not gonna use it that much. Squirting hot piss all over the place. The Bolt gun is pretty awesome though.

Boosting with a flamethrower sounds extremely fun. I loved turning myself into a flaming fireball in the Armored Core games and would love to bring that joy into KZ2. This might be the first map pack I will actually have to buy. New levels are nice, but they weren't enough to make me want to put down 5 or 6 dollars for just 2 maps each. But I agree with Elsa on the free content that is needed. But not new maps though. Those take work to make and I believe people should get paid for their work. I'm more thinking on the lines of little stuff. Like alternate skins for classes to spice up the variety. Just hit a button when under class selection and BOOM, alternate skin for a class. Perhaps alternate variations of the original multiplayer levels. I'm sure I'm not the only who would find it greatly amusing if Guerilla turned the dark and gritty feel of the maps over and give you a variation that was bright and cheery such as a barely cloudy bluish sky with rainbows and chirping birds instead of dark clouds and lightning.

the bolt gun, finally, I don't know why it wasn't included in multiplayer in the first place.

I finally caved and bought some KS2 DLC yesterday the Flash & Thunder pack. But in the couple of games I was able to squeeze into my free time nobody was playing those maps. Granted, I could have looked harder using the filters to find games using them, but...

New map pack will be Napalm and Cordite. Yes, it will also include the new weapons... but the better newsis that they are releasing a patch!!! It will nerf the sentry bots a bit (they were...dare I say it... overpowered - the most overused word in Killzone!) and they've added a game browser that allows you to see game options before joining!

Yeah... I'm far more excited about the patch than I am about yet another set of maps that I'll never use.

I hope the new weapons don't bump up the price of this DLC: the steep cash exchange is the reason I haven't brought any of them so far. The promise of new weapons is more tempting this time around though...

Still, I need to get back into the online of this game!

I don't think the bolt gun would be more powerful to use than a sniper rifle, it is difficult to hit a target with, and it wouldn't have scope.

As for the flamethrower, if it is like it was in the campaign, then it also would not be a very powerful weapon online. It would be good for lowering the health of a group of people, and finishing off people that are already close to death, but it just doesnt cause enough damage fast enough to be that powerful of a weapon.

I think both of these weapons are going to be underpowered, but still cool.
