Killzone 2 gets new ranks: Race you to 100000 points! photo

As I switched on my PS3 and waited for eight million years while the latest Killzone 2 patch downloaded, I wasn't expecting much. However, after using my elite sniping prowess to lead my Helghast brethren to another glorious failure, I noticed that the mission point rankings had been increased, and three brand new ranks were ready to be earned. Lo and behold, I check the Internets to find that the patch has added new rewards.

The three new ranks bestow no in-game benefits, so there aren't any fresh classes to uncover. They're just a neat little extra reward for hardcore Killzone 2 players. The news of this was buried in the patch's features list but hasn't been extrapolated upon by Guerrilla until today. We now know that we can shoot our way to 100,000 points and earn the esteemed rank of "person with the most amount of time on his hands."

In future news, Guerrilla is hard at work to make up for the lack of a "party system" in the game. They'll be making it a lot easier to join up with friends and ensure you get onto the same faction as them, as well as improve the squad system and allowing players to keep in the same squad over multiple games.

Good things have happened and good things will continue to happen, it seems. That's good, because I like good things. I think they're good.

If anything, now I feel the need to play the game again and shoot them in the face for listening to Rush.

Good news, it was useless seeing the post game points screen and points being wasted on your rank, because they do fuck all after you reached Genneral and unlocked the scout class. Still I wish they pulled a cod4 and made it go up to 55 or something. Never the less, my favourote shooter now has placed it self, again, at the top of my games to play constantly.

Also, it's weird you are getting slow download times on pactches Jim, my PS3 takes seconds to download most pacthes, including the KZ2 ones.

You should contact sony or piss around with your network settings. might do some good. :)

Jim, know that when we play this together, and if we happen to be Helghast, I will sing the Temples of Syrinx. And Subdivision. And Probably Xanadau. And I will do it without mercy, or remorse.

You can't lose points can you? I mean if you just gain points for killing and winning and not lose points for losing. Anybody can eventually win.

Mushman: I think Jim is on dial up out there in Mississippi. There's good news for him right around the corner, I hear they might be getting ISDN next year.

100,000 is certainly not that much in the long hull. I figure at the rate I'm playing now I'll get there by the end of the summer. They should have put something at maybe 50,000 for shits and giggles though...Someone make that happen!

@ Chronic:
I think you can lose points. I remember once having an overall negative score, but it wasn't at the end of a game.

This is exactly what I needed! - I could not be arsed to play Killzone online once I'd reached the rank cap. Spoiled the game for me. Nothing to acheive.

Should have waited before trading it in.

Damn it.

RUSH!

Seems pointless, but whatever - something to aim for if you're that way inclined.

* New ranks are good. I don´t like be in clans, so new ranks give us a incentive. But new weapons and abilities would be even better.

Thanks for the achievements, but honestly, anybody who's excited by this has incredibly low standards. It exemplifies the class system as reason to play besides the gameplay merits. If there were a lazier way to try and get more people to play, I haven't thought of a patch for it.

I understand why they haven't included more classes, based on the scout class at 100 000 you'd just spawn in a tank or a gundam and wreak havoc until the game's over or you run out of ammo, which is pretty much how scout works on most maps anyway.

This is awesome! I mean, I was still playing it anyway because I think the gameplay is reward enough for playing, but this adds a nice little psychological cherry on top!

Looking forward to the new maps as well. I hope they continue to support this game, it deserves it!
